The Dealers room is one of, if not the biggest, non scheduled con event. It is almost guaranteed that any con you go to will have a line outside the dealers room waiting to get in on day one before it even opens.
The Dealers room has everything: Anime, manga, figures, models, wall scrolls, art books, pins, shirts, video games, plushes, cosplay (more on that later), Japanese drinks and snacks and so much more! Most of it is pricey, but you can find some really good deals. One of the best things about dealers is that most of them don’t charge tax. With so many people coming at them at once it is important for them to be able to keep up. A nice round number makes everyone happy and keeps things moving along.
I have know some people to bring a grand or 2 with them to a big con like this just for the dealer’s room, but I usually don’t bring too much money to cons so I normal spend hours in the dealers room making circles and browsing because I can’t make up my mind. This is a good thing is some ways because if you want to save some money you can wait to buy the majority of your merch on the last day. Sure, if you see something day one that you don’t think will last long go ahead and buy it, but if it can wait till day 3, come back then. Odds are that whatever you were looking at will be discounted, or you can haggle with the dealers, because the more stuff they sell the less they have to carry back after everything is said and done.
When I finally take my eyes off all the merchandise I notice a guy walking around as Vageta from Dragonball Z, and I look again and find a girl dressed up as Catwoman from Batman. What is going on here? Cosplay is coming up in the next article.
