A woman has admitted stealing a $6,500 mink coat and then hiding it in her underwear for three days, police said.
Stephanie Moreland, 46, of Bloomington, Minnesota, had even ‘modified’ her panties in order to stow the coat away.
A sales assistant had confronted Moreland about the theft, but she denied it before driving off.
The associate then took down Moreland’s licence plate number before calling police.
They caught up with Moreland later only to find the coat’s hanger in the car. The coat was nowhere to be seen.
They booked her into jail for the weekend on theft charges. Three days later she admitted to a detective she had stolen the coat, but had already sold it.
But the detective was left open mouthed when Moreland later lifted up her dress and pulled out the coat from her underwear.
‘She actually cut the rear of the underwear out so that from the back it appeared she was not wearing underwear and then stuffed it down the front,’ Bloomington Police Commander Mark Stehlik told CBS News, at the time of the incident.
Moreland pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft of property. She will be sentenced next month.
