A 19-year-old Kentucky man died after police said he refused to stop and sped away from an Arkansas State Trooper Sunday.
The Arkansas State Police is conducting an internal review and investigation into the death of John Bomar.
Police said the pursuit began in Forrest City around 4:35 p.m. when a state trooper attempted to pull over Bomar for a traffic violation.
Officials said Bomar exited the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 at Forrest City and turned north onto Arkansas Highway 1. He did not stop and instead increased his speed to more than 100 miles per hour. Near the St. Francis and Cross county line, a state trooper executed a precision intervention technique, also called a PIT maneuver, which caused Boar’s vehicle to go off the highway and into a farm field, officials said. State troopers and other law enforcement officers administered life-saving measures to Bomar, who was
the only person in the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to a Wynne hospital, where he later died.
