Three people are dead following a shooting at a Maryland mall, Howard County police said.
The victims at The Mall in Columbia include the suspected shooter, police said. A press conference was scheduled for 1:15 p.m. ET.
“Three people confirmed dead at Columbia Mall. Victims unknown at this time,” the department reported on its Twitter feed.
The department, in a tweet, said the call came in to the 911 dispatcher around 11:15 a.m. that shots were fired at The Mall in Columbia. Responding officers found the bodies, including “one found near a gun and ammunition.”
Police say the mall is believed to be secure, but they are asking people in the mall to stay where they are until officers confirm that the area is safe.
Some shoppers reported hearing gunfire before fleeing the mall, The Baltimore Sun reported.
