1 of 2 men charged with stealing more than 100,000 e-mail addresses from Apple iPad users has been released on bail.
Daniel Spitler appeared in handcuffs in U.S.
District Court in Newark on Tuesday. The San Francisco resident was
released on $50,000 bail and ordered not to use the Internet except at
work. He is a security guard at a Borders bookstore.
Spitler and Andrew Auernheimer face charges
of fraud and conspiracy to access a computer without authorization. Both
counts carry maximum 5-year prison sentences.
AT&T revealed the security vulnerability
months ago. U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said there was no evidence that
the two men used the information they acquired for criminal purposes.
