(abc24.com) – A famous Memphis rapper is in trouble with the law once again. This time police in Mobile, Alabama say Yo Gotti started trouble at a local mall.
Dozens of fans snapped photos and video of Yo Gotti and his crew being taken away in handcuffs. The last time Yo Gotti was arrested was in 2010 after a shooting at a night club; he was accused of starting a riot. Fans tell ABC 24 News he needs to get his act together.
Mario Mims, better known as Yo Gotti, is a fan favorite of thousands.
“I listen to Gotti a lot. I listen to his new songs and I like him a lot,” said fan Jeramy Tyus from North Memphis.
Yo Gotti has more than 350,000 followers on Twitter and fans track his every move. Monday night, Feb. 20 the rapper from North Memphis was scheduled to perform in Mobile, Alabama. Before he did, he and his entourage stopped by a local mall.
A fan posted a video from his iPhone on YouTube to show what happened that night. The mall manager tells abc24.com Yo Gotti and his entourage insisted on entering the mall after hours. The manager says 4 people with Yo Gotti were arrested for trespassing.
About an hour and half later he posted a picture of himself on Twitter holding a stack of money and saying the “show will go on.” Fans are not happy.
“I feel like he can do better than what he’s doing,” said Tyus. “He’s a big star and people look up to him in the neighborhood and people don’t want to see him fall down.”
Reverend Sylvester Bradley grew up in the same rough neighborhood as the rapper. He’s happy about Yo Gotti’s success but hopes he’s more careful in the spotlight.
“None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes but chose your battles a little bit more specifically, a little bit more carefully, because it’s easy to influence somebody the wrong way,” said Rev. Bradley.
Charges were dropped from Yo Gotti‘s 2010 arrest. As far as Monday’s incident, Mobile Police did not charge the rapper with trespassing.
