South Fulton County Ga. College Park police arrested more than a dozen men in connection with a counterfeit merchandise raid at a popular mall.

Officers also spent the day carting out boxes and bags of merchandise they say is fake. It happened at the Discount Mall on Godby Road.

Police say they spent months sending undercover officers into the mall to buy the knock-off merchandise.

Then police, along with federal authorities, went into the mall to confiscate the illegal merchandise and arrest the vendors who sold it.

“We found a number of purses and different types of clothing, shoes. And all types of merchandise with names such as Michael Cole, Gucci,” Chief Deputy Ferman Williford

Officers said they arrested 13 people by early afternoon. They shut down the mall while they investigated.

One mall vendor who wasn’t inside at the time of the raid – and wasn’t implicated in any wrong-doing — said he was surprised to see so many police.
Police say the men arrested face charges of dealing in counterfeit merchandise.

Officers say the mall could re-open Saturday.
