West Coast Artist, Ozi drops his debut single “Not A Player”
Ozioma Kosisochukwu Ogele Jr, also known as Ozi, is an independent Hip-Hop artist known for his smooth and electrifying sound with wordplay and rhyme schemes that fit right with the beat. Born on September 28, 1997, in Ikeja, Nigeria, and raised in Los Angeles, California, Ozi’s formative years were defined by his Nigerian parents’ upbringing which gave him discipline in sports and many other activities in a city of Inglewood which was very hard to come by.
A couple of years later, things began to change as he and his family moved to the suburbs. While still dedicated to sports, Ozi found it hard to connect with people early on and used music as a way of connecting and finding joy in socializing with others. It was at that moment after high school finding out how much he loved writing rhymes on the bus and spitting freestyles with his friends at lunch that he realized that being an artist was his true passion.
Ozi is inspired by Tupac’s message, Biggie’s storytelling, 50 Cent’s energy, Lil Wayne’s sound, Drake’s cadence, and his parents’ Nigerian music that was played at home and every outing he attended. Once he graduated high school, he bought a USB Microphone, Logic Pro X and a stand. He learned how to mix, master, and record himself on his own and began releasing music on SoundCloud.
