JAY JONES: Making moves in the industry

Rapper Jay Jones has been quite busy as of late.

Besides performing live on stage recently and working on his latest mixtape project, “Only If You Kool Enough 2”, Jay Jones has been working to brand his company.

Being mentored by HITZ International’s legendary J-Dawg (Black Menace) and Mista Meana and Kango Slimm (Partners N Crime), Jay Jones is learning the music and entertainment industry from the inside out. He’s also learning two of the most important elements of the industry – work ethic and perseverance.

The Heat caught up with Jay Jones to find out about his upcoming show on June 30, 2012 at Tipitina’s Uptown in New Orleans. Here’s what we learned:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: You’ve been really busy lately. Tell us what all you’ve been working on.

JAY JONES: Well, besides all the shows I’ve been doing, I been busy trying to finish up my second mixtape, “Kool Enough 2”. That’s set to drop in mid-July so y’all can be on the lookout for all the promo that’s gonna come along with the new tape.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: You recently performed at Sound Clash and you have the upcoming show on June 30th at Tipitina’s. What can your fans expect to see from you at Koan’s “Nuthin But Heat Summer Jam”?

JAY JONES: Most definitely they can expect a great show and a couple of new songs off the upcoming mixtape, plus a couple of surprise performances from some of my HITZ International fam, but that’s all – I can’t really tell you everything. If you wanna see what’s really gonna go down, come out to the show on the 30th to find out!

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about the upcoming mixtape.

JAY JONES: I can say that it’s way better than my first tape because I put more time and work into it and I can guarantee that you guys will love it. I feel like I’m only gonna get better from here, so just tune in and watch the moves that I’m about to make!

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How do you feel you’ve grown as an artist since “Only If You Kool Enough” was released?

JAY JONES: I feel like I’m really in my zone right now and I have found myself all the way as an artist. I’m really a perfectionist now, so every song that I do has to be on point or I won’t be satisfied!

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What’s new with Chill Society?

JAY JONES: Chill Society has a lot of super kool things coming up, but the most major thing right now for my movement is the clothing line that I’m gonna launch this winter so y’all can be on the lookout for that and all the great music that I have to come along with it!
