One women has died after being shot and another woman remains hospitalized in Wilmington, Delaware.
Police say a shooting in Wilmington has now turned deadly, and the search for the gunman is on.
The incident took place around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday on the 600 block of West 6th Street.
24-year-old Artise Brown, a mother of two, was shot in her lower back and later died at Christiana Hospital.
A second victim, a 19-year-old woman, was shot in the upper leg and remains in stable condition. Her name has not been released.
Arriving officers were greeted by a very large crowd. It was a chaotic scene as scores of onlookers pushed in and surrounded the victims.
Police used CPR in an unsuccessful effort to save Brown’s life.
Police say the two women were walking along the sidewalk when they were shot.
It is believed the car drove up to a nearby intersection, and at least one gunman got out and fired multiple shots.
Brown family doesn’t believe that she was targeted but instead was at the wrong place at the wrong life.
“It don’t make no sense,” said Candice Brown, sister.
Renaesha Ellington returned Wednesday to a growing memorial near where she held her fatally wounded cousin.
“Tried to get her to grab my hand, tried to get her to squeeze my hand, tried to get her to respond in some type of way,” said Ellington.
It’s hoped one of two cameras in the area might have captured images of the car.
Councilman Michael Brown chairs the public safety committee.
“If this community don’t come out and say something, shame on them. There were over 200 folks out here last night,” said Councilman Brown.
So far, no arrests have been made.
