There is just too much talent coming out of the Deep South right now. M.C. a/k/a Mdot Cdot is no exception to this rule.
Quite the hustler, Mdot Cdot can be seen all over popular social networks promoting himself and his work, which just happens to be excellent in its own right.
Having grown up in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of the musical mecca known as New Orleans, M.C. began rapping and writing at a young age. Heavily influenced by 8 Ball and MJG, he credits the duo with inspiring him to write his first rap.
M.C. began traveling to California and it was after that time, that he was given a chance to promote for singer/songwriter Teedra Moses. He recorded his first 16 bars in California. Having performed at numeous venues, M.C. is well on his way to a lasting and fruitful career in the music industry. He released his first album in 2009 (“Come Take A Ride With Me“), featuring Teedra Moses, Dizzy and Rizzle.
We got a chance to catch up with M.C. on the eve of his performance at the 1st Annual Epic After Dark Music Festival, to be held Sunday evening in New Orleans. Here’s what he had to say:
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us a little about yourself.
MDOT CDOT: I go by the name of M.C. or Mdot Cdot. I ‘m an independent artist from the New Orleans area, Metairie to be exact. I’m preparing for the release of my new mixtape, “The Intermission”. Features include Teedra Moses, Dizzy, Lyrikill, the Prospekt, Dangafield, Mega Man, C.O., Codac, Top Shelf, Spit Raw, Rizzle, Red Greg, Mistah Fab, Crack Tracks, and more. Aside from the mixtape promo, I have performed locally and nationally from New Orleans, to Cali to Maryland. I am currently booking shows in Houston, Dallas, Mississippi, Atlanta, and Miami. I gotta see what’s out there!
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How long have you been performing?
MDOT CDOT: I have been performing for about five years now and each performance has been a wonderful learning experiance, but at the same time appreciated. I’m happy to get the chance to entertain a crowd, even if only for an open mic or freestyle session.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about the music festival.
MDOT CDOT: Shout out to Diversity Music Group first off, because without them, I wouldn’t have the platform. The 1st Annual Epic After Dark Music Festival is a magical night full of entertainment and art from across the country located in the epicenter of New Orleans’ live music scene – Frenchmen Street. It’ll be at Club Vaso’s on Sunday, October 23, 2011. I’d also like to send a special thanks to The Heat Magazine for this interview and I look forward to working with you in the future.
