Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past several weeks, you know of Unc Imo, the 6o-year old rapper with a bad knee. What you may not know though, is how much he has to say to the world.
Unc Imo has a radical view on politics, especially with regard to Louisiana government, but he may be on to something. It seems he has much of the political system figured out – and he proposes some new ways to clean up the streets and end the cycle of violent crime, particularly in and around his beloved city of New Orleans.
We spoke with Unc Imo and here’s what he had to say:
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: So tell us a little about yourself:
UNC IMO: As you know, I’m 60, but I’ll be turning 61 on November 28, 2011. I’m retired from the U. S. Post Office and I am a Disabled Vietnam Veteran. I love golf and I also teach it. Now my goals are to get marijuana legalized and to stop making criminals out of people for using a plant made by God. There’s enough real crime now. Stop wasting police power on pot smokers and let them deal with real crime. This is a plant that is made by God and helps many illnesses.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What other projects do you currently have in the works?
UNC IMO: I want to address murders in America and how we can fix this crime problem, but we must stop playing games and focus on real crime. We must start with our young and change the way we raise our kids. If you raise an animal, then you get an animal. No love as a child equals a killer. We must stand together to fix our country. We must learn to love each other no matter the differences. We’re all God’s children. Love …
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How did you get into rap music?
UNC IMO: God brought me back home and made me a rap artist. I never rapped before in my life. I went into that booth, but God spit those verses – not me. I lost everything in Hurricane Katrina and the insurance company didn’t pay up, but God is great and through His power, I moved to California. It was just not His will.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about the video that has gone viral.
UNC IMO: I made a video that went worldwide in less than two days. The video was just done – we never dreamed it would do so well.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What other projects do you currently have in the works?
UNC IMO: We are working on a song for legalizing marijuana called, “Bust It Up.” It’s to stop making criminals in a time with so much real crime. Also, a benefit song for the people of New Orleans East who never received any money from all the funds the state received from you good people. The world tried to help, but the Louisiana government stole all that mone and my people are still suffering after six years. So sad, but we’re keeping the faith. I want to thank all of you for all the love and support. I love my fans and I follow all on Twitter. I will be working hard for y’all.
