Georgia mother of 4 and grandmother of 5 who is known to have a caring heart agreed to give a young woman a ride home, unaware that it would be her last time doing so, as she opened the door to her own demise.
The discovery of Abad’s lifeless body in the trunk of her car on December 22, 2017 shocked her loved ones and the entire community, according to “Killer Couples” airing Fridays at 8/7c on Oxygen.
On December 22, 2017, an 18 year old D’Asia Page was allegedly hanging around a Publix store in an Atlanta suburb in Fairburn, Georgia when she asked a stranger and employee of Publix, Toni Abad for a ride. Abad who was leaving work for the day was known to have a caring heart and of course agreed to give Page a ride.
Page signaled Abad to a secluded off road wooded area, off of Cascade Palmetto Highway where her then boyfriend Jared Kemp emerged from the bushes with a baseball bat in his hand and smashed Abad’s driver window of her 2012 Ford Fusion and proceeded to beat her with a baseball bat.
Abad begged and pleaded for her life when Kemp proceeded to beat her to death and ignored her pleas.
A BB-gun was also supposedly used in the attack, according to an indictment obtained by Oxygen.com. There are no details of the intent of the BB gun and how it was used.
After the beating of Abad, Kemp and Page drove her car to a Waffle House not very far away. The couple abandoned her car along with her body still in it in the rear of the restaurant.
Abad endured suffering before her death, investigators told Oxygen.com.
According to Oxygen.com Paul L. Howard Jr, a district attorney states;
“Our investigation shows, had she been asked, the victim, Toni Abad, would have gladly given these defendants her automobile, her money, her jewelry, or anything else she owned if the defendants said they needed it,” Howard, Jr. told Oxygen.com. “Why she was so senselessly beaten to death reflects a tremendous lack of moral fiber and consciousness often observed in serial killers. With this conviction we hope Ms. Abad is resting in peace and her family receives closure.”
Abad, a grandmother to five grandchildren and a dedicated employee, officials said. Her children described her as a “caring woman who was always willing to go the extra mile to help others.”
Jared Kemp was sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of Toni Abad. D’Asia Page was sentenced to 30 years.
