GOV’S WORLD…TAKING YOU OUTTA SPACE!

Doing what we do! The Heat got the pleasure to catch up with this young Outta this world rapper who is taking the rap entertainment game on an Out of this World Tour!

The Heat has had an eye on this fly and talented rapper for a minute. He’s been so busy with all the shows and touring that’s been coming his way Nik-o-Licious had to become his own personal stalker to track him down to talk to him about his new CD entitled, “Gov’s World”. He takes a deep yarn, as he was getting out the bed, brushes his teeth…and this is what Young Gov said:

The Heat: Where you coming to us from…
Young Gov: Decatur, IL, about an hour or so from Chicago…enjoying this little chilly weather.
The Heat: I always like to open up my interviews with artist paying homage to their beginning. So where did the root of your beginnings start?
Young Gov: Decatur, IL..westside… It was a little rough coming up round the way, but hey…I made it…(his sexy deep voice giggles)
The Heat: I can feel that… so, when did you fall in love with the Hip Hop?
Young Gov: Imma say, umm, I was young…around eight years old… Imma tell you the story…This is how I remember it. When I was in class I used to do a lot of writing, I was crazy’bout writing. My teacher used to tell me, “stay out my notebook”, to the point one day she came to my desk and snatched my notebook. I was like, “man what’s going on”? She ended up reading it, “see what I’m sayin”, to the class and I had some curse words in it…I had so many curse words it was crazy…(he laughs hard) They sent me down to the principal’s office and even words they couldn’t pronounce, they was saying them was curse words. I was like how yall gone do this man…They almost stole my joy in hip hop that’s why I came back even harder. I started recording on a karaoke machine and from then on they couldn’t stop me…my biggest motivation was listening to 2Pac and Biggie, that’s my era. I was listening, really listening to them hard…
The Heat: I was sitting here just a minute ago jamming to “UFO”. That shit goes hard…tell us a lil’bit about where that song came from?
Young Gov: Preciate it , Preciate it..umm, man, “UFO”, it was a lot of motivation that came from behind “UFO” and umm, at first we recorded “UFO” awhile back, it was a record that was like could last forever. We really didn’t have too much faith in it but we dug it back up because of the era. It’s like the outta space type era, something new. “UFO” just took us by storm when we heard it again. So it’s a record that states no matter how far you go you could never reach your boundaries…I would say the meaning of the song would be that the sky is NOT the limit…outta space is the limit…
The Heat: Wooo, that’s deep Young Gov. We’ve heard, “reach for the sky”, but I can’t recall ever hearing “reach for outta space”…
Young Gov: (He smiles and looks to the sky) Definitely…definitely…
Young Gov: We even got everything in house. We trying to be the next Motown, maybe even bigger. We got our own photography, our own video crew. We got four artist right now and our own producers.
The Heat: So you guys got your own label then?
Young Gov: That’s Right, Red Flame Music Group…
The Heat: Ya’ll taking it outta space huh?
Young Gov: Where ever the flight might stop, we gone be there…(he laughs)
The Heat: At one point there was a certain label out there trying to get you to sign a few years back but you turned them down. What’s up with that story?
Young Gov: Round 2006, right before Soulja Boy got signed. My partner Young Star introduced me to Young Kwon. Kwon was Soulja Boy right-hand man. Kwon was like, he (Soulja Boy), got the Net booming right now, he about to have a deal. So me and him hooked up, did a couple of tracks, was’in nutin to brag about. About a’year later he got a deal. He was like I’m going to take you and a couple of my partners with me. So a contract was mailed to me in about three days. I was like man! I didn’t know what to do with it so I took it over to B,(Bennie Smith), to have him look over it. Then B got back with me saying this contract wasn’t good for me. So I just decided I rather take that grind…that slow grind.
The Heat: I hear ya…making sense to make the dollars. So tell us, what are you bringing to the industry that’s not already out there?
Young Gov: I’m bringing experimental…sum’in different. I’m taking’em somewhere they ain’t been before, you know..I ain’t ready to stop no time soon. I’m young, this what I do. It’s almost the hustler mentality, know-what-I’m-say’in…A hustler they really don’t stop til they feel like everybody in they family can eat. That’s my goal…to feed my family.
The Heat: I heard that…you say you young coming up in the industry, how young is that?
Young Gov: I just turned 20 in May.
The Heat: They say there aren’t many rappers out here like Kanye West who refuses to conform to what the industry wants them to be…what do you think is missing for the people verses what they’re getting?
Young Gov: Right now it’s much better. It was worst. It wasn’t as good as it is right now. Right now I feel like it’s on a rise. A lot of people are bringing it back. Peps like Big Sean or Meek Mill, Wale, and of course Young Gov, we bringing it back up. We can see this clearly. It’s at a good stand point other than what it was.
The Heat: So you getting ready to do some touring I hear…
Young Gov: Right now we got a couple of tours set up. We just got off the Diddy Dirty Money Tour. That was with Tyga, Karlie Redd, and Young Money. That was a great experience. Next we going on with Gucci, like a 30 city tour. It’s the “Boomtown Music Group”. We gonna see what it’s gonna come out to be.
The Heat: I know we were talking earlier about your hot single “UFO”, but rumor has it you have another single that will be hitting the radio waves soon..
Young Gov: Exactly…it’s called “Doing Numbers”. Right now, a lot of people got a strong opinion about that song. The beat is catchy…the course is catchy…definitely gonna have the clubs rocking…It’s also friendly. It’s not like a song the kids can’t listen to, the kids can listen, adults can jam to it. It’s HOT!
The Heat: Sounds like you got a lot going on in Gov’s World…so what’s next for Gov?
Young Gov: Right now what’s next for me…is building this presence with this viral…anything you do daily, get it on camera…on viral they can see my everyday moves, up close and personal for my fans. Everyday we shooting!
The Heat: Sounds like ya’ll got the game on lock at Red Flame Music Group?
Young Gov: Exactly…
The Heat: Just quickly I wanna know about what your team is doing to give back to the community? We are truly in a state of recession…anything you guys doing to ease the load?
Young Gov: Umm, as far as giving back to the community…we definitely gone keep giving back. We did a shoe drive giving out one hundred pair shoes to kids in need. We sent out letters to different schools asking for 5 to 10 kids that was in need. That’s something we gonna continue to do. Every time I drop a single from my mix cd that does pretty good, we gone show up and show out! That’s what it’s all about. They are the reason. This is where I come from. Without my community and their support, without them, we not! It keeps them strong and it gives them hope.
The Heat: That’s what we love to hear. We can’t be blessed if we don’t bless others… I know you’re busy, got a lot going on. I just wanna thank you for feeling The Heat.
Young Gov: I just wanna give a shot out to The Heat, ya’ll HOT, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to feel ya’ll!

And that was what Young Gov had to say.
