Easy Pawn: Cash For Gold & More

The Edwards Family

Have you seen those “Cash For Gold” commercials that are being blasted all over the airwaves? If you have, you’re probably pretty skeptical of them but what if you really have jewelry you would like to sell? Enter Erik and Shilene Edwards, owners of Easy Pawn Shop in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

The couple does a tremendous amount of business not only in Arkansas and surrounding areas, but also online on eBay and Craiglist.

Their shop features all kinds of items, including jewelry, tools, gun, and even musical instruments. Questions? Call Easy Pawn and they’ll be glad to answer any you may have.

Erik’s motto is “WHY PAY RETAIL?” He’s wheeling and dealing on just about any type of item you can imagine. The Heat caught up with the owners of Easy Pawn and here’s what they had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell our readers about Easy Pawn & what your company does.

EASY PAWN: Easy Pawn was founded by Erik and Shilene Edwards.  We have been married for 8 years and have two beautiful boys, age 8 years and 16 months.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How long have you been in business?

EASY PAWN: We opened Easy Pawn in 2011, but we are not new to the business.  We are formerly of Money Mart Pawn Shop, where I successfully ran and operated that business for the past 10 years.  It is my grandfather’s store, so I’ve literally grown up in the business – since I was about 5 years old. I have 23 years experience in guns, jewelry and all types of merchandise.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Do you transact business online?

EASY PAWN: About 25% of our sales originate on eBay, such as cell phones, cameras, and anything technological.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How did you get into the pawn business?

EASY PAWN: My whole family has played a huge part in the Pine Bluff Pawn Industry.  Our pawn shop is great for our surrounding community and city because we provide instant cash loans to people that need quick money to hold them over until payday or whatever may be the case.  Our customers bring in collateral – guns, jewelry, tools, electronics, etc. – for a short term 30 day loan with an option to renew. We evaluate the item, offer a percentage to value on it, and the customer decides if they want to pawn it. They then have 30 days to return and pay us back plus interest to redeem their item. We pride ourselves on helping people out in times of need, especially in this struggling economy.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What do you find are your most popular items?

EASY PAWN: Our biggest and best transactions come from buying gold, silver and platinum. I cannot stress this enough – the gold market is huge and I want everyone to take advantage of it by getting cash money in their pockets. We don’t pay by checks – we pay cash! We also offer an extensive inventory of new and used guns, and special order guns arrive weekly also – so if I don’t have it in stock, I can order it.  We also sell tools, electronics, jewelry, etc. We do a lot of business on eBay. One of our most popular items that we buy is scrap gold – anything broken, bent and unwanted can be turned into quick cash – same thing goes for silver.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Is this a difficult business to be in?

EASY PAWN: The pawn business is a tricky business because you never know what’s coming through the door. It can be a $50 piece of gold to a $12,000 gun, so you have to have extensive knowledge in just about everything possible – and you have to be ready for it, too. We accept cash, credit cards and debit cards. We also offer wholesale prices on guns, jewelry, electronics, and tools. WHY PAY RETAIL?
