(CNN) – Dick Clark has died of a heart attack at the age of 82, according to TMZ.com report.
Clark’s representative told TMZ he had been in St. John’s hospital in L.A. after undergoing an outpatient procedure Tuesday night. Clark suffered the “massive” heart attack following the procedure. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Clark was best known as the face of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square and the host of American Bandstand.
Clark is one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, nicknamed “America’s Oldest Living Teenager.”
He began hosting Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in 1972 and appeared on the show until 2004, when he suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed. Regis Philbin stepped in as host that year. The following year, Clark returned to the show, with radio and TV personality Ryan Seacrest serving as the primary host.
Clark also revealed to Larry King that he had Type 2 diabetes.
