A career criminal has been jailed for 80 years after he attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill to buy hot dogs and popcorn at a cinema.
Charles Nowden, 48, of Mansfield, Texas, was arrested after a counter clerk at the cinema carried out a routine authenticity test on a bill handed to him.
The clerk testified in court that Nowden appeared nervous, asked repeatedly whether there was a problem with the bill and tried to substitute it for another in November 2009.
Assistant District Attorney Dawn Ferguson, prosecuting, told the Boston Herald: ‘Charles Nowden was a career cargo thief who needed to be brought to justice.
