Cambridge Audio: DacMagic XS
Matchbox sized Digital to Analog Converter and headphone amplifier unleashes your computer audio’s true potential
I must say that I was skeptical when I received this tiny little box. I thought to myself “there is no way this little thing is going to make that much of a difference.” Well my friends, I really had no idea how bland my audio entertainment situation was in my house until I started experimenting with this on everything that I own that makes noise. Over the ear headphones, earbuds, sound towers, speaker systems. Anything that has a headphone jack will benefit from the DacMagic. Basses are deeper, trebles are richer, just the whole experience of what you are listening to is amplified. I challenge anybody to try this box out, listening to any song with and without it back to back and tell me that it doesn’t do what it promises.
This little box does all the work for you. Just plug it in and, I kid you not, 4 clicks and it was all set up. After that it is smooth sailing, it is simple enough that anyone can use it and it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The two buttons on the from adjust the volume up and down, which in my opinion is it’s most prominent shortcoming because once it is set up those buttons are the only way to adjust the volume. So depending on your set up and what you are hooking the DacMagic up to you it might be a pain to adjust your volume. The only other complaint I have about the DacMagic is the price. $200 for this little box is shocking to see at first, but once you try it for yourself you will understand what “Getting what you paid for” really means. Any musician that produces digitally, which I imagine most of them do, will benefit greatly from the DacMagic.
