BREAKING NEWS: Former Dominican Republic VP Carlos Morales Troncoso dies at 74
Carlos Morales Troncoso was the grandson of Manuel de Jesus Troncoso, president from 1940 to 1942 during the Trujillo Era.
He was married to Luisa Alba, with whom he had four daughters, Nicole, Ivette, Michele and Cecile and 11 grandchildren.
He earned degrees in two disciplines: chemical engineering and engineering Sugar LSU (Louisiana State University, LSU) in 1962 and 1963, respectively, and in 1982 was awarded a doctorate honoris causa in Humanities at the University of Chicago , (Chicago University).
Within his work in the sugar industry, he developed an arduous and remarkable participation in the Gulf and Western Americas Corporation, later Central Romana Corporation, of which he was president and formed the State Sugar Council of the Dominican Republic, which went from his presidency.
He was vice president of the Dominican Republic in 1986, winning his candidacy with Joaquín Balaguer.
The Vice President Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, through his twitter account, said “the soul lamented the departure of Don Carlos Morales, a human specimen, a devoted father, a public servant committed to his country”
