ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Jru-Starz

Jru-Starz

Million dollar smile, talent, gifted, southern charm, and a graceful, soothing voice – these are just a few attributes describing R&B artist Jru-Starz.

Jru-Starz has a sound that takes his listeners to a whole different plane.  He tells The Heat Magazine that his music was inspired by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Ginuwine, John Legend, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, and Al Greene.  His sound is a mixture of classic soul with a contemporary twist.  Jru-Starz is a singer and songwriter, in addition to being a talented dancer and actor.  His versatility takes him to a whole other level.

Jru-Starz tells us that his songs inspire true love, reality and change. His inspiration comes from “heart and life experiences” and his innovative dance style incorporates hip-hop, modern, ballet, and jazz.
Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, Jru-Starz began his singing career in a church choir that was directed by his mother.  It was not long after that time period that he discovered the talents of the legendary Michael Jackson.  After studying Jackson’s amazing delivery and putting his own spin on it, Jru-Starz began entering many local talent shows and school productions.  His fan base and local celebrity began to grow.  Throughout it all, he remained loyal to his community by being a positive and respectable role model to the youth coming up in his area.

Jru-Starz is currently unsigned and is working on some major projects.  He won the “We Hear the Future” showcase and competition at the 2006 Billboard Awards, before appearing on BET’s 106 & Park as the spotlight performer in April of 2009.  He has also opened for legendary artists that include KC & JoJo, Lyfe Jennings, Anthony Hamilton, and Mary J. Blige.

Jru-Starz also continues to work with his mentor, Roi Anthony of Lafayette, Louisiana, a multi-talented musician who most definitely holds his own.

Jru-Starz tells The Heat Magazine that he is “the type of artist whose passion for music will not allow” him to do anything less than to go above and beyond to create quality music. He writes and vocally arranges the majority of his songs.

Jru-Starz’s acting resume includes many roles, the most memorable of which were supporting roles in Tyler Perry’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and “Mama I Want to Sing” starring Ciara.  He is waiting for the right opportunity to present itself so that he can once again show off his thespian talent.

Jru-Starz makes sure to give props to God for blessing him with his many talents and for allowing him to experience all life has to offer.  The Heat Magazine sees this handsome and extremely talented young man going far in his chosen profession.
