At only 13 years old Aaliyah Fisher has accomplished something most 13 years old could only dream of. Founder and CEO of Grafetti 03, Aaliyah has stepped her foot into the fashion world and become the youngest present fashion designer ever to do so. Aaliyah and her designs have been featured in the Izsomie annual fashion show, Little Rock Fashion Week (the fastest growing fashion week in the U.S.), The Black Expo, as well as a host of other venues. Aaliyah has a lot to talk about with all of her undertakings. I was glad to catch up with the busy teen to have a one on one with her.
Shai : What got you interested in clothes?
Aaliyah: My grandmother was a seamstress and quilt maker. From watching her, I gained an intrest in sewing and it inspired me. She taught me how to sew and I began to make pieces of my own.
Shai: Describe the style of Grafetti03
Aaliyah: The style of my clothes (Grafetti03) is different colorful and vintage.
Shai: What are you plans for Grafeti03?
Aaliyah: I plan to turn Grafeti into a shop or boutique where my clothes can be displayed and sold. I also think it would be nice if I could do somethings for the less fortunate. I want to be able to make affordable clothes to provide for them as well.
Shai: How do you balance school and your work?
Aaliyah: After school I take a sewing class every Wednesday. My designs really just pop into my head. I do most of my designs on Saturday when I have the most free time. I have a lot of ideas and I will sketch them out as they come. As for school, sewing doesn’t interfere with it. I balance them quite nicely.
Shai: What are you working on right now?
Aaliyah: I sketched some designs for the BET awards. I submitted them to Keri Hilson, Lisa Raye and Pooch Hall (Derwin from the game) some said they like my designs will reply soon.
