After a five-year hiatus, British-Brazilian rock icon Saulo Oliveira S. — The Prince of Rock — is back in the spotlight, and anticipation for his upcoming album Do Gears Know They Are Gears has reached a fever pitch.
Fresh from a high-profile feature in 1883 Magazine, Saulo opened up about the album’s existential themes, its cinematic scope, and the moment of inspiration that struck him in the back of a cab. “Does knowing you’re part of a system free you or trap you deeper?” he asks, hinting at the record’s philosophical core.
Blending lucid dream imagery, sleep paralysis experiences, and the structural mastery of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony — which he studied at Harvard — Saulo calls the new sound “smoke — it lingers.” Every note, lyric, and visual is meticulously crafted under his total creative control, making the project more than an album: “It’s an ecosystem,” he says.
The comeback isn’t limited to music. Saulo recently turned heads at Curitiba Fashion Week in custom Dior B23 sneakers and his signature all-black “Rock Chic” look, cementing his status as both style icon and sonic visionary.
And now, in an exclusive reveal to The Heat, the singer of Like We Used to Do has confirmed the complete tracklist for Do Gears Know They Are Gears. The album’s eight interconnected tracks are:
- Acid Lemonade
- Nighthawks
- Watchmen
- Middle Finger
- Hilltop
- Westward
- Maze
- Lemonade Acid
According to Oliveira, the songs flow seamlessly into one another through crafted transitions, forming a unified sonic journey. “They’re chapters of the same book,” he explains. “Each song could stand alone, but together they tell the whole story.”
Adding to the excitement, Saulo has shared the first public look at the official album cover — designed entirely by himself. The image is a stark, conceptual visual that reflects the album’s themes of awareness, resistance, and the tension between order and chaos. “I wanted the cover to feel like a symbol you can’t forget,” he says. “It’s as much a part of the art as the music is.”
With its immersive concept, meticulously arranged tracklist, and striking visual identity, Do Gears Know They Are Gearspromises to be more than just a comeback. It’s a statement — one that aims to shake the alternative music scene to its core.
Do Gears Know They Are Gears arrives this November.
