Lissedia Batista, a Spanish teacher at a high school in The Bronx, New York, was just days away from finding out if she was expecting a boy or a girl when a brawl broke out between two teenagers over a chair.
The 27-year-old told one of the students to come with her but it sparked chaos in the classroom as other teenagers muscled in on the action.
In the midst of scattering chairs and scuffling teenagers a pupil shoved or fell into Mrs Batista’s back causing her to fall forward, her stomach crashing into a hard chair.
Talking to the New York Post she recalled: ‘Everything was blanking out because I felt like I was in pain.’
Miss Batista got up and calmed the teenagers down before continuing her class, in a former Chemistry laboratory.
She later learned she had lost her unborn child, but astonishingly does not hold any bad feelings towards any of her students.
