Papa John’s Pizza has apologized for an employee typing a racial slur on a receipt to a customer at one of its New York City locations. Customer Minhee Cho reportedly posted a message on Twitter along with an image of the receipt from a Manhattan location describing her as “lady chinky eyes.”
Several hours later after the message had gone viral, the Louisville, Kentucky based company formally apologized on its Facebook and Twitter pages for Cho’s experience. Papa John’s says it fired the employee.
According to a report from the Louisville Courier-Journal, a Papa John’s spokeswoman stated that the company was attempting to reach Cho to issue an apology, but that she had not immediately responded to messages sent via email and Twitter.
The image of the receipt on Cho’s Twitter page shows she went to Papa John’s on Friday.
Talk about a “DOH!” moment …. Cho is the communications manager for internet giant, Pro Publica. The Papa John’s employee probably could not have picked a worse target.
