The earthquake was felt strongly in Mexico City, according to a Reuters witness.
Mexico’s National Seismological Survey said the temblor had an epicenter southwest of Ometepec. The quake was located 120 miles east of Acapulco.
A person at Acapulco City Hall told NBC News that they felt the quake but had no immediate reports of injuries or damages.
It was six miles (10 kilometers) underground. No tsunami was expected.
Mexico City Mayor Marcello Ebrard just sent a tweet saying, ‘we have an earthquake’.
