2023 star studded Democracy Dinner is a stellar success

On October 12, 2023, the 2023 Demoracy Dinner was held at, aptly enough, the Atlanta History Center. It was an amazing star studded event that did not disappoint.

In partnership with The Georgia Alliance, ProGeorgia, America Votes Georgia, and Progress Georgia, the 2023 Democracy Dinner was a celebration of the work of the leaders, organizers, strategists, and analysts who advance the promise of democracy in Georgia every day.

The 2023 Democracy Dinner served as an acknowledgment of the 100+ local institutions that consistently work together to cultivate power through civic engagement, civic education, and civic participation. This year’s theme was “Celebrating the Power of Coalition.” It indeed showed the power and importance of working together to reach history-making goals.

One of this year’s honorees was award-winning American rapper, actor and activist, Common, recipient of three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award.  The Chicago, Illinois native focuses his social justice and advocacy work on mass incarceration, mental health, and voting. Common launched the nonprofit Imagine Justice and the Common Ground Foundation, which operates educational programs in Chicago.

Other honorees were Ben & Jerry’s, Melanie Campbell, Bobby Fuse, Hillary Holley, Krista Brewer, Bertis Downs, Scott Satterwhite, Billy Hall, and Leslie Palomina.
