1st Priority Management and Trae Productions present “Girl Power Movement“. The event organizers are no stranger to community empowerment events, having recently presented the “Skate Against Crime Celebrity Mixer 2011”, among other events.

Knowledge is power and if we give these girls the knowledge, they will have the POWER.

Make sure to visit http://girlpowermovement-efbevent.eventbrite.com/ to purchase your tickets. We got ours! The Heat Magazine is an avid supporter of the Girl Power Movement. We had an opportunity to speak with its organizers and here’s what they had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about Trae Productions & 1st Priority Management.

FIRST PRIORITY MANAGEMENT: First Priority Management, LLC was established in 1999. Our first artist was actually a Techno Dance artist, Clint Crisher out of Washington D.C. Throughout the years, we have worked with local artists such as VIVID, UPSKALE, Prophecy, and many more. FPM took a leave of absence while our founder attended nursing school. The company relaunched in January 2011 when former artist Jae Junya signed a distribution agreement with Def Jam Recordings.

TRAE PRODUCTIONS: Trae Productions Inc. began in 1998 and started doing house parties. We then began renting venues out and hosting teen events. We were most popular for doing Saturday nights at The Factory located in New Orleans East. Now we are shifting gears to reaching our youth in the community.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What inspired you to start the Girl Power Movement?

FIRST PRIORITY PRODUCTIONS: We saw there is a need for ladies to be empowered – to know their worth. There are some subjects that girls need to be aware of and we wanted to get the information to them and knowledge is power therefore we call it GIRL POWER MOVEMENT.

TRAE PRODUCTIONS: They need to know they are beautiful and intelligent and that you don’t have to use your body to get what you want – use your brain.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Where do you hope to see the Girl Power Movement in 1, 5 or 10 years?

FIRST PRIORITY MANAGEMENT: Next year, we hope to have more businesses to sponsor us and help reach out to our girls. In 5 years, a larger venue, more attendees and again, just more of the community working together so that we can reach the young ladies. 10 years out, with God’s help, we will still be pushing the issue that we need our youth. We also hope for more attendees, and hopefully the city will work with us to get the message out.

TRAE PRODUCTIONS: We hope politicians will be involved, we hope for a bigger venue and more churches to be involved … and Oprah, LOL.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us how important the Girl Power Movement is to our youth, particularly females?

FIRST PRIORITY MANAGEMENT: Girl Power Movement is an empowerment seminar. We are going to give our female attendees knowledge they can pass on and use. Topics such as breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, self esteem, choices, STDs, Pregnancy, Mammograms, Make-up, Fashion, Hair, Jewelry, Accessories, Chocolates, Cakes, Dance Schools, Education, and everything girls need, use, love will be all under one roof! It does not get any better than that.  Every youth will be faced with those things that will be mentioned during the event.

TRAE PRODUCTIONS: Not only females should come out, but males should attend so they can know how to treat a lady – so that they can see how society actually treats women different from men.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What do you think parents need to do in order to get involved and take control?

FIRST PRIORITY MANAGEMENT: Parents need to step up, not only giving instructions, but by leading by example. If you are wearing tight and revealing clothing and your daughter sees it, she is going to think, it is good for her so it is good for me. If you are backing it up with a drink in one hand, don’t expect daughter to be any different. You are leading by example. Show interest in what your child is doing.

TRAE PRODUCTIONS: Teach independence. Push education, the love of the Lord, and that you love them. Edify your children. Tell them they are beautiful. My daughter thinks she is the most beautiful girl on this planet and you can’t tell her no different because Daddy tells her everyday she is beautiful, special and a princess. Every female is a princess and/or queen and should be treated like one.
