On Monday, a Troy, Ohio man was sentenced to three years in prison for shooting his daughter in the back of the head with a pellet rifle. He admitted to police that he was playing a game to stop his daughters from arguing.
A reporter with Ohio station News Center 7 indicates that the man was impersonating Elmer Fudd.
In October 2010, Jerram Hicks shot his 2-year-old daughter in a house on Ridge Avenue. Hicks told police he was playing a game he called Elmer Fudd. According to police, Hicks thought the gun was unloaded when he pulled the trigger.
Hicks’ attorney called the incident an exercise in poor judgment. Hicks told the sentencing judge that it was a terrible accident, while police said it was a terrible tragedy. Judge Christopher Gee told Hicks that his actions resulted in a potential life-long injury to his daughter. He was ordered to serve three years in prison.
