A teenage girl has been arrested after she allegedly tried to kill her nine-month pregnant friend and perform an amateur Caesarean to steal the baby.
Kassandra Toruga, 18, from Maricopa, Arizona, was found in the victim’s apartment with two large butcher knives, scissors, diapers and baby clothes, according to police.
Firefighters were initially called to the scene after Toruga allegedly set fire to her friend’s bedroom wardrobe, but once they arrived and discovered the plot the police were called.
Police say Toruga has a history of schizophrenia and was telling people she was the one who was pregnant. They say she has admitted to the crime.
A spokesman for the Pinal County Attorney’s Office said Toruga, who is facing attempted murder, arson and burglary charges, made her first appearance in court Friday and remains in police custody on $500,000 bond.
