While The Dark Knight has an array of gadgets and sheer physical prowess to survive the rough nights and crime fighting of Gotham City, his alter ego Bruce Wayne couldn’t keep sane without his trusty butler and guardian Alfred Pennyworth. Today I’m sad to report that Michael Gough, a veteran actor best recognized as playing Batman’s loyal caretaker in the Batman films from Tim Burton & Joel Schumacher, has passed away at 94-years old.
His work includes such films as Dracula in 1958, The Phantom of the Opera in 1962 and the 1985 Best Picture winner Out of Africa. In addition to working with Tim Burton on both Batman and Batman Returns, the actor also lent his talents to Sleepy Hollow as well as providing his vocal talent to characters in The Corpse Bride and 2010’s Alice in Wonderland
