Barack Obama is officially running for reelection – hard.
The President launched his campaign Tuesday night, infusing his third State of the Union address with a full-throated populist message more pugnacious than conciliatory — and with the underlying message that keeping the American dream alive is “the defining issue of our time.”
In a fresh signal he intends to make a political foil of a Congress where Republicans hold the balance of power, Obama said he welcomes GOP cooperation in the common interest – but warned he’ll push back against any delaying tactics he believes have hamstrung a fragile economic recovery.
“As long as I’m President I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum,” Obama pledged to a joint session of Congress.
“But I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place.”
