(NEW HEAT) Paxquiao (@Paxquiao_) ft. @DerezDeshon Ice Starr – “Ride 2 Getha” (Produced by Ice Starr)

Thursday, November 8th, 2018

He wanted to let his friend know that he was going to be there for him to the death and all he expected in return was that same love and loyalty. They wouldn’t have to worry about the haters and the naysayers because they were going to ride together. Life puts you on an emotional roller coaster and his music takes you on that journey. It’s something that everyone can relate to no matter where they are in their respective lives.

Though freshman standout Paxquiao may just be beginning his career in the music scene, he is exhibiting his ability to withstand pressure.

Paxquiao’s new Ice Starr produced single “Ride 2 Getha” features Derek De’Shon and proves he is ready to tackle the Atlanta nightclub music scene. The song depicts a particularly difficult time Paxquiao and one of his closest friends endured in their past. More importantly, it resonates with his fans and is a song to which any diehard friend can relate. It’s the new ride or die anthem. It is the first single from Paxquiao’s upcoming album, “Dodgin the Raindrops”.

We recently caught up with Winston and here’s what he had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Growing up, what and who influenced you musically?

WINSTON: Watching my big cousins rap – when I was younger, I wanted to be like them. My musical influences include the late great Soulja Slim, my late brother Bobby and Kevin Gates.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Who’d you look up to as a youngster?

WINSTON: My Uncle Cliff and my Uncle New York because they was gangstaz.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What can your fans look forward to you releasing?

WINSTON: I have my debut mixtape “AskBoutMe” and I plan to follow-up with the Don Solomon project.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What’s in your future?

WINSTON: Only God knows the future. Long as I’m living, I’m gonna be grinding.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What’s your favorite kind of music?

WINSTON: I love all music. It don’t matter if it’s Pop, R&B, Rap, Country – long as it sounds good and tells a fire story.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: If you had a piece of advice for a younger Winston, what would it be?

WINSTON: “Stay Focused.”

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Where do you see your career in the next 2, 5 and 10 years?

WINSTON: I’ll be able to honestly say, I’m one of the biggest in the game.

(NEW HEAT) J Lyric – “Wake Up Mr. West” (VIDEO)

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018

New Orleans artist/activist J Lyric is no stranger to controversy when it comes to marring politics with his music. He’s well-known for his political stance, as can be seen from his Twitter and Instagram posts. His most recent offering is a single entitled “Dear Mr. West”, when he calls out Kanye West on his recent seemingly change of position on politics, particularly his siding with President Donald Trump – something that most who wish to see social change would never do.

The visuals for “Dear Mr. West” clearly demonstrate what was on J Lyric’s heart when he penned the lyrics to the song. It is a most important video in this political climate, amid racial turmoil across the U.S. The single is available for download and streaming on all digital platforms.

(NEW HEAT) Damar Jackson – “Everything” (VIDEO)

Saturday, April 28th, 2018

Rising star Damar Jackson just released the visuals to “Everything”, a single off his new “Unfaithful Deluxe” album featuring heavy hitters Gucci Mane, NBA Youngboy, Moneybagg Yo, Kash Doll, and Yo Gotti. He’s currently touring across the nation with YFN Lucci.

Damar Jackson is quickly becoming R&B’s new vocal star, exploring themes of love and relationship drama in the “Everything” video. According to Damar, ‘Everything’ is a song about a certain person that was rocking wit’ me while I was going through a real toxic relationship. Everything I couldn’t talk to my girl about, I could talk to this other girl about. We ended up being close but my loyalty was still to my girl. So I never told anybody about this one special girl that was there for me,” Damar explains. “The passion in this song shows how much you can connect with somebody but still love someone else.” The video begins with a scene that many people of color can say they have dealt with, blatant racism in an establishment that goes unchecked in full. “This video takes you through real life situations in Louisiana. How racism is still alive and how we deal with violence within our own communities,” says Damar Jackson. Having the two dueling themes of love and race issues visually clash makes for a mix of emotions when you watch “Everything.”

The director, Cinemadona, works the angles just right to get the story across on screen. Yet, that love triangle still tugs at your core when you hear the pain in Damar’s main girl’s voice. “We don’t have many resources, so we love real hard and take loyalty very serious. You will see how I spend a lot of time with the person that I can’t be with. We share moments that allow us to grow but loyalty keeps me with the one I started with,” Damar maintains.
