New Orleans ia a talent mecca. How does being from there influence your style and art? What does it do for your grind and hustle?

ROCA B: Coming from the Birthplace of Jazz, that automatically influenced me because the music is everywhere. As a child I would walk in the French Quarters just to hear the music and see people dancing and moving to the sounds.

Who all have you worked with?

ROCA B: I have worked with artists such as Kidd Kidd, Curren$y, Mr. Marcelo, Calliope Var, Bigg Choo, UTP Skip, Kourtney Heart, Joker, P-Town Moe – the list goes on.

Where can we expect to see your career in 5 years?

ROCA B: You can expect my career to be at the top of the musical charts.

Do you have hopes of getting into any other avenue(s) of entertainment?

ROCA B: Yes, I have always been into acting. I’ve been taking acting classes since seventh grade. Acting and music is where my heart is.

What will we be seeing in the future that will make us say, “Roca B” is so unique?

Lauryn Hill charged with failure to pay taxes

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

THE CLIFFVIEW PILOT JUST BROKE THIS STORY:

Singer and actress Lauryn N. Hill, a native of South Orange, was charged today with failing to file three years of income tax returns with the IRS on more than $1.6 million of income.

A complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Newark charges Hill with not paying taxes for ,calendar years 2005, 2006, and 2007.

The onetime Fugees member, who turns 36 in two weeks, has a federal court date scheduled in Newark on June 29.

According to the complaint, Hill owns and operates four corporations in addition to
being an entertainer:

Creations Music, Inc.,
Boogie Tours, Inc.,
L.H. Productions 2001, Inc.
Studio 22, Inc.

Her primary source of income, federal prosecutors in Newark said, is royalties from the recording and film industries.

During the three years she failed to file tax returns, Hill received more than $1.6 million in income, it says.

Hill first came to audience’s attention with the Fugees. Then, in 1998, she released the blockbuster solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” which earned five Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

But fame turned her away from public performing. After four years out of the spotlight, she did an MTV “Unplugged” gig that produced the live album “No. 2.0.”

Michelle Obama told the BBC that she frequently listens to Hill’s music on her iPod, and Sen. John McCain’s daughter, Meghan, once told an interviewer that he dad listens to her: “I borrowed his car once in D.C., and I was looking through [his] CDs, and I was like, ‘Oh, Lauryn Hill.'”

Hill has done soundtrack recordings and mixtapes, while performing here and there at festivals, in recent years.

Hill, who moved back in with her mother and children in South Orange, has five children, five of them with one of reggae great Bob Marley’s sons, Rohan.

The maximum penalty under a conviction is up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Hill would also have to make good on the back taxes.

U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman credited special agents with IRS-Criminal Investigation with the work leading to the charges. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra L. Moser of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Division in Newark.

The Amazing Kendall Lake

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Bubbly, beautiful, full of life and personality – these are words that describe the amazing Kendall Lake.

A model, actress, singer, and You Tube sensation, Kendall Lake is destined to become a household name as far as entertainment goes.

Kendall is not only beautiful, but she is intelligent and outgoing – two qualities that will take her far in the entertainment industry.

The Heat enjoyed our interview with Kendall Lake. She’s a refreshing soul to speak with – almost like having a conversation with a friend. By her own admission, she is shorter than most models and she comes complete with fancy artwork in the form of intricate tattoos, but we believe this is what will set her apart from other female models. We just know it is only a matter of time before the entire world discovers Kendall Lake.

We were fortunate to catch up with Kendall Lake and she took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to speak with us. Here’s what she had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about your time on True Blood. It’s a very hot show and to have worked on the show must have been exciting for you.

KENDALL LAKE: My time on True Blood was really, really fun. I am the vampire dancer in Fangtasia. Hopefully for next season, which is starting filming soon, they’ll be back in there. I was technically a co-star, even though I didn’t have any lines, I have my own trailer. Everybody I worked with was very nice. I didn’t wear fangs because technically vampires don’t have their fangs out unless they’re eating or they’re angry.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What other work have you done? We understand you’ve done some modeling and you’re a singer.

KENDALL LAKE: I modeled for about a year and a half to two years. I was featured on Maxim.com. I’m in INK magazine. I was the first African-American to be featured in that magazine. I had a back cover and about a six page spread and a calendar in that specific magazine. I was also in Tattoo magazine. They do an annual issue and the best articles from throughout the year. So in each one of those magazines, I made it into the best issue also. I also shot for ALT Exclusive which is from the owner of Show Magazine. I did a couple of music videos and as far as modeling, I’m short – only 5 feet tall – and I have tattoos. I’m Ethiopian and German, so it’s like my genre for modeling is kind of small. It’s kind of hard for me to get work. All of the work I did get, I got myself. I didn’t have an agent or manager or anything. I would just contact editors and people myself to see if I could get into things. My passion is singing and I have a single that was going to play on iTunes, but I had a disagreement with the producers so I no longer want to be associated with them. I’m recording now and trying to get music out.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What can we expect to see from you in the next few years?

KENDALL LAKE: Hopefully, a couple of albums will be out. I’m shooting a movie right now for Maxim and Patriot Pictures. The movie is from Runaway Bride to The Matrix to Underworld. That should be coming out either this Halloween or next Halloween. It’s a horror movie. It’s like I’m just rolling with the punches as far as the acting goes, just doing things that come to me. Singing is my passion, so I just want to perform, tour, travel, and do my music, so hopefully, that’s while I’m be doing. I also recently hosted a red carpet event for X-Games and a company called Skull Candy.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The world will be seeing much more of Kendall Lake in the near future. She is a kind soul who is multi-talented and we know she will leave her mark on the entertainment world. You can follow Kendall Lake on Twitter – @Kendallake.

The Beautiful, Brilliant & Gifted Bethany Devine

Amazing Talent

True, God given talent in the music industry is often hard to find. A lot of times what you’ll see from artists, are gimmicks put out there to make the entertainer seem more talented or multi-faceted than what they actually are – such is NOT the case with the lovely songstress, Bethany Devine.

Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Bethany comes from a large and loving family that supports her music career. More importantly, Bethany has true talent that seems “divinely” imparted. One listen to her music and you are hooked.

Bethany Devine is one name The Heat is confident you’ll be seeing much more of, very, very soon. Her voice is absolutely beautiful and natural – perfect in every way.

In addition to her music career, Bethany Devine is also a dedicated wife and minister. Her bio contains a tidbit that we thought was important to mention, “She feels that the greatest tragedy other than dying without God is to stand in judgment empty handed-without winning enough souls to Jesus Christ.” Wow – now that’s powerful.

Bethany is a college graduate who earned a B.A. in Finance from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She also earns an M.S. in Finance from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. After working in corporate America for a while, she realized her true calling is in musical ministry. Bethany lost her father in 2005 and after beginning to recuperate from her massive loss, she began working even harder to bring her musical career full circle – and she is doing just that. These are just a few of her recent accomplishments:

  • Featured on the National Stellar Awards
  • Featured on The Gospel of Music with Jeff Majors on TVOne
  • Featured on the One Love Gospel Cruise with Verizon and Radio One
  • Featured in & selected in the Top 20 of International Vocal Competition on BET’s Sunday Best
  • Toured Europe
  • Ministers to minister to youth at College Campuses, State Prisons and Sexual Assault Coalition gatherings across the country

We had an opportunity to talk to this amazing young role model and here’s what she had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell our readers about yourself.

BETHANY DEVINE: I am the youngest of ten children. I’ve been singing since I was about five years old.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: So what’s in the works for such a busy young entertainer?

BETHANY DEVINE: I have some big things coming up. I have another album that I’m about to start working on. I’m just looking at moving to the next level. The only reason that I sing is to inspire people. That’s the main reason for my voice – I always want to inspire. It’s my goal to be inspiring and to encourage people. I’ve traveled all over the world and I also do a lot of college campuses and churches across the country, and also state prisons. People are people, no matter where they are.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Are you looking to get into any other avenues of entertainment or business, in addition to the music?

BETHANY DEVINE: Yes, I’m looking into getting into encouraging t-shirts. I’m definitely going to work on branding myself a lot more. I’m working with a lot of different people now. I can’t say everything yet, but there is definitely more to come.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: If there was anyone you could choose to work with as far as artists, who would that be?

BETHANY DEVINE: That would be between Kirk Franklin and Babyface. I think they’re both brilliant producers and I’d like for them to work with me. I’d also like to work with Kanye West.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How can fans find you on Twitter and Facebook?

BETHANY DEVINE: My Twitter name is @beedevine. On Facebook, I’m “Bethany Devine” and they can also “Like” my Facebook fan page, B. Devine. My website is www.bethanydevine.com.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Bethany Devine is an extremely talented young lady with the voice of an angel. Make sure to check out her music, as it has something for fans of any genre. You can follow her on Twitter and you can check out her fan page on Facebook. Make sure to visit Bethany Devine’s website for the most recent news on where her career is headed.
