MTV reality star dies

Monday, November 17th, 2014

(CNN) — Diem Brown, the MTV reality star whose fight against cancer was an inspiration to many, lost that long battle on Friday. She was 32.

“MTV is tremendously sad to hear the news that Diem Brown has lost her long battle with cancer,” the network said in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Diem was a true fighter and brought passion to everything she touched. We will miss her.”

In her absence, many are grieving the loss of a woman who wanted to provide support for all who were facing illnesses.

Brown was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was 23. At the time, she didn’t let the diagnosis or the treatment slow her goals: After having an ovary, several lymph nodes and part of a fallopian tube removed, Brown packed up and set off for Australia to take part in MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge,” People magazine reports.

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

Lil Wayne is taking seizure medication following his mid-air medical emergency last month — when he suffered seizure-like episodes on two back-to-back flights — so says the rapper.

Weezy was giving an interview with MTV when the room got hot, and he said, “Please let them know that I have an air unit, but because of the sound, they don’t want the air on, so it’s super hot in here … I don’t want y’all to think I’m on nothing, man. I’m on seizure medicine. That’s all.”

Ms. Melodie, member of the legendary Boogie Down Productions and ex-wife of BDP founder KRS-ONE has reportedly passed away.

The Brooklyn native born Ramona Parker was signed to Jive Records where she released her debut album Diva back in 1989. Little Rock tress expert appears on ‘MTV Made’

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

Every once in a while, a reality show comes along that truly touches the soul. We’ve seen makeover shows come and go and quite often, they have such a superficial theme to them. Well, not with MTV Made.

Shalita Heard, owner and proprietor of Iconique Studio, is accustomed to breathing new life into her clients. Heard comes alive when she speaks of how a simple makeover has the possibility to being the key to a life altering event. You can just tell that she not only loves adding extensions to make her clients gorgeous – Heard lives for it.

Last week’s episode of MTV Made featured Mackenzie, a young lady of bi-racial ethnicity whose story is as touching as it is important to be broadcast. Heard was brought in to help the young lady, a Harrison, Arkansas resident. Not only did Heard provide assistance to her – she helped completely make over this beautiful young female. In this episode of MTV Made, the show made Mackenzie over into a cheerleader.

Ask any of Shalita Heard’s clients and they will tell you she is a force to be reckoned with and someone you definitely want on your team, when preparing to look and feel beautiful. We caught up with Shalita just before the show aired – here’s her it went down:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us what services were performed on Mackenzie.

SHALITA HEARD: Mackenzie is biracial, so I gave her a keratin treatment to control her curly hair. Mackenzie was raised by a Caucasian family and searched for a solution to her hair issues. I straightened her hair and helped her to control the curl. I also colored her hair and sewed-in extensions.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: That is great that you were able to help the young lady. Tell us what new ventures you’re involved in and what we can expect.

SHALITA HEARD: Well, I have a new hairline that launched in October of 2011. It’s called Phenomenal Hair by Shalita Heard.  I’ve been doing hair for over 19 years, and my clientele includes celebrities whose jobs include radio show host, TV news anchors, politicians, and well known businesswomen.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What interesting tidbits can you tell us about the show?

SHALITA HEARD: The show was filmed in Harrison, Arkansas, an area known in the past for KKK  activity. Mackenzie was adopted by an older white couple who moved her to Harrison when she was young. The story is a very touching one.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How much excitement do you see from your clients when you use extension?

SHALITA HEARD: My clients find them exciting. Some come for fashion, but I also do replacement of hair for chemo patients undergoing cancer treatments, in addition to working with those suffering from Alopecia, Psoriasis, Lupus, and other diseases.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Approximately how long does it take you to finish up with a client?

SHALITA HEARD: It takes about 2 hours for sew-in extensions, depending on the services being provided.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Ms. Heard is an expert in her field, who has shown time and time again that she is the best at providing beautiful creations that not only meet her clients’ expectation – it exceeds them each and every time. Follow Ms. Heard on Twitter: Visit Ms. Heard’s website:

Tyler the Creator jumps on stage at Gucci Mane’s show, gets choked within seconds

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Odd Future’s head mischief-maker, Tyler the Creator, had an interesting experience last week when he tried to crash a Gucci Mane concert. Tyler jumped on stage during Gucci’s show in Los Angeles, but was forcibly removed within seconds. He was yoked up and dragged off the stage by Gucci’s security, who seemed to think that he was just another deranged fan.

Odd Future’s ‘Loiter Squad’ Gets An Official Trailer

Either way, it seemed as though Tyler enjoyed being mishandled since he had a huge smile on his face while being hauled away. The crazed MC later returned to the stage and got back to his antics, jumping around like a drugged rock band member. By the look on Gucci’s face you could tell he wasn’t too happy about the whole thing. Tyler probably felt the tension as he made his grand exit with a failed attempt to crowd surf.

OF recently released video “Rella” and ““NY (Ned Flander).” One word to describe “Rella?” Wacky! In a statement to MTV News Tyler described the video saying, “I have a gay couple, it’s a bunny and a chicken, girls get slapped in the face and I snort a lot of coke.” As you can tell “Rella” has no specific theme, it’s just a bunch of randomly assembled zany thoughts put together by the gang.

Aside from the ridiculousness, Odd Future will release two big projects later this month. Their anticipated debut album OF Tape Vol. 2 is set to be released on March 20 and the musical misfits will also premiere their sketch comedy show “Loiter Squad” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on March 25.

Mannie Fresh Says Hot Boys Reunion Was A Ploy

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Since as early as 2007 we’ve been hearing talk about a possible Hot Boys reunion. There have been countless interviews with all of the members who have said the reunion was a go.

Turk even gave an interview to MTV in March 2011 stating that he would be home soon and was looking forward to linking back up with Juvenile, Lil Wayne and B.G.

“We about to make it happen. It couldn’t be no Hot Boys reunion without me,” said Turk at the time

All that talk can be forgotten now that producer Mannie Fresh has revealed that the whole thing was a hoax.

“Well, I always did say that’s not happening. It was just a ploy; it was just something to make them look good at the time,” Mannie told HiphopDX “It was like, okay, we saying this, but I’m like, “How are y’all saying this, and y’all not getting in touch with nobody about it?” It’s like asking somebody something in an interview and you don’t know how to dodge that question ‘cause the next question might be the same thing you asking me. Like, “Well, dude, okay, if it ain’t gonna be that, then how you gonna straighten out things with these people?” So the easiest way to get out of that is like, “Yeah, we working on it, we doing it.”
