David Austin (March 17, 1984) better known by his stage name, Woody Mane is an independent rapper born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, signed to Oneof1 Management Company. Woody Mane will mark his territory with his forthcoming EP titled, “Ghost 2.5.”

Strongly influenced by his surroundings while growing up in the gang-ridden neighborhood of Eastwood in Fort Worth, Woody Mane quickly realized his passion for music early. Woody began using it as an outlet to express things he would see in his day to day environment.

Greatly inspired by musical acts like Tupac, Lil Wayne and Chamillionaire, Mane’s biggest motivation to pursue a music career came following the untimely death of his biggest supporter and eldest brother, Derrick Austin in 2008.

The loss was a pivotal moment for the rising star, as it motivated him to go harder with his pursuit of music and begin performing throughout the DFW metroplex. He quickly amassed a core following, which resulted in him being featured on Texas legend, Lil Keke’s 2014 hit, ‘Subtract Da Top’ off his “Money Don’t Sleep” album. Since then he has gone on to collaborate with other notable Texas rappers such as Tum Tum, Solo Lucci, and Jaio.

In 2015, Mane dropped his highly anticipated debut project, Codeine Fiend, which received a warm reception by fans with popular tracks ‘Regulate’ and ‘Masked Murderer.’ He then followed up its success with the release of his second project, Black Ghost in 2016 which earned him the attention of mega music executive, Debra Antney. Woody Mane’s third project, Ghost dropped April 19, 2017, and is still doing numbers.

WM’s latest compilation, GHOST 2.5 is set to be released soon! Make sure to follow him to stay in tune with updates.

Industry Chokehold: Mighty Joe drops some knowledge on the masses (Part 1)

Sunday, March 31st, 2013

“What’s better than being independent and living and dying by your own map? Nothing, which is why I am so passionate about providing as much information and be as much of a mentor as I can be to the Indie process …” – Joshua J. “Mighty Joe” Slack, Jr. in “Industry Chokehold”

It seems these days that the only true “friends” an independent artist has, are hard work, grind and those who tirelessly promote them. While I tend to agree with that to a certain extent degree, but there are some individuals in the industry who have made it their business to help others, while asking little in return. Meet Joshua J. Slack, Jr., a young man who is known as “Mighty Joe” of Mighty Muzik. If ever there was a man who wears many hats, this is him.

Joshua "Mighty Joe" Slack - An indie artist's best friend

Joshua “Mighty Joe” Slack – An indie artist’s best friend

Mighty Joe, along with several others, have helped to build Mighty Muzik into an empire that dedicates its resources to helping independent artists. One of its mottos is, “Where NOLA talent calls home” – while that’s true, Mighty Muzik has been more of an influence to all indie artists, than what it can ever know. Mighty Joe has been an integral part of the positive influence brought about by Mighty Muzik and those who work within the brand.

The Heat was blessed with an advanced copy of “Industry Chokehold” and all I can say is, it will quickly become the handbook by which independent artists live. We highly recommended the book. It is evident that Mighty Joe shared all of his knowledge. In fact, this master of branding is giving artists all the game needed to succeed in an industry where failure is almost always the norm.

We sat down with Mighty Joe and talked to him and here’s what he had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: You have your hands in all sorts of projects that benefit those who are in the entertainment industry. Tell our readers about your endeavors.

MIGHTY JOE: Well first I’d like to thank you guys for featuring me and extending a hand. I am currently CEO, publishing, designing, writing, branding, marketing, managing the site (www.mightymuzik.com) for my brand MightyMuzik™. I have my hands in a few sponsored local events such as The Sound Clash & MashOut with El Williams. January of last year my team & I put together the Code Red Network which is an online multimedia network and we have begun production on our first three show series; NOLA Top10 Video countdown, Disclaimer Comedy, and Branding My Biz with Kevin Griffin. December of 2012 we launched Monstars Radio in a joint effort with jusCookie, which is a 24-hour online radio station with live shows. The first show being The Cookie Jar with host jusCookie which airs Mondays 7-9p. In the branding and artwork field I own and run Code Red Studios LLC where I do a ton of freelance graphic & web design work. February of last year I got into Video production so we have added that to our arsenal of projects. Some of our work can be found if you have seen 2011 or 2012 NOLA Hip Hop Awards Website and Brand identities, 2012 NOLA Summer Jam website & Brand identities, Oceana Grill Commercials, and we are currently part of the promotion behind Chef John Besh’s project Chefs Move! Scholarship to name a few. I keep in contact with a nice amount of New Orleans talent and give advice where I can.

el

The Heat is a huge supporter of those who support others – El Williams is just such a person.

From El’s SoundClash series to MashOUT, he is always somewhere doing something for and with music and entertainment, particularly the types of events that help the independent artist – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. El definitely makes the Heat’s “List of Those to Watch”!

El is one of the go-to men in the South when it comes to entertainment.

Be ready to check El out later this week when the first MashOUT of 2013 takes place!

Happy Birthday Charlie Martin of MARTIN MEDIA MANAGEMENT from The Heat Magazine!

Saturday, May 19th, 2012

The Heat Magazine wants to wish our good friend Charlie Martin a very, very Happy Birthday!

Charlie Martin, far right

We won’t tell you how old he is – that’s a secret. What’s not a secret is that Charlie is one of the busiest businessmen on the New Orleans music scene

Whether he is working with one of his artists signed by his companies, Martin Media Management and Kenner City Records, or he is doing his popular radio show, KCRR (Kenner City Records Radio), you can bet he is helping the independent artist out.

Making sure our independent artists get the exposure they deserve is one of Charlie’s specialties. Make sure to leave Charlie a birthday wish below in the comments section!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHARLIE!!!
