Getting To Know Mushiya Tshikuka From “Cutting It in The ATL”

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

On Wednesday June 3rd 2015, I was sitting talking to a really good friend of mines and in our conversation I told her that I would love to meet “MRS. MUSHIYA” from the show “Cutting It In The ATL.” She told me to go on Instagram and send her a message, I said why not It’s worth a try. Within the hour after I sent the message, I got a call saying that I could go with “The Heat Magazine” and do a write-up on Mrs. Mushiya the very next day. Oh you see how fast GOD works, that’s what i told my friend.  So I spoke it into the universe and it came to pass. I met Mrs. Mushiya that Thursday night and when i tell you that she is a FORCE TO BE RECKON WITH, honey that’s and understatement!! She’s so humbled and beautiful all in the same breath tho. When she found out about my battle with cancer, she was so amazed. She told me that I was beautiful, gave me a HUGE hug and kissed me on my cheek. I was so humbled, grateful and most of all shocked because she showed me that much love and didn’t know me from a can of paint. She told one of her colleagues about me, which her dad does nothing but research on cancer and took my info so that she could give to her dad for him to call me. I was so amazed myself, but I had to reflect back to why I was really there. That’s where GOD needed me to be at that very moment to do and get what he needed me too. When I say that I had a blast with Mrs. Mushiya and her crew from “THE DAMN SALON”  6780 Roswell Rd Ne. Atlanta, Ga, please believe me, I even won me a great gift! The Damn Salon specializes in ALL natural hair. She said “Who the hell says that natural hair has to be boring!!?” She believes that “BEAUTY” comes in many colors and shades no matter if they have kinky or straight hair. She also loves herself and want to teach more people to do the same. “Who cares what people think of you?” is what she always says. Can you imagine her face when she says that!? Yeah, I know right lol. You can find THE DAMN SALON in a more than just a few places like Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC, Charlotte, NC, New York, Houston, TX, and Montreal. You can also order the hair extensions from her brand called RUNWAY CURLS on her website and any other info that you may want to know about this Phenomenal Woman. I’m so glad and honored that I had the pleasure meeting her!! My thoughts of the day!

We talked with Kasarhri Rae to find out what’s behind her talent, one that’s quite obvious from the first look through some of the photos of her astounding work. Here’s what she had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How did you get into doing makeup and what was your inspiration?

KASARHRI RAE OF JUST BLEND: Makeup and fashion has always been something I have been very interested in. I actually was really lucky getting into professional makeup. My girls and I were on our way out to a club in Vegas and stopped by MAC to get our eyes done and the artist that was working on me was the coolest chick I have ever encountered. I told her I wanted to be just like her – I was a lil tipsy! She happened to be the store manager and told me to come back. When I did, she hired me as a part time cashier. It’s history from there.

My fellow makeup artists are huge inspirations to me. Makeup is so subjective and every face is unique and there are so many techniques that I am continuously learning.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: We checked out your website and you offer quite a few different services. Let the readers know what all you do.

KASARHRI RAE OF JUST BLEND: I focus on creating amazing makeup services for weddings, red carpet, girls’ night out, and special events, photo and video shoots. I will also work with men and women on personal shopping and image styling.

I Love my weddings but my favorite service is usually the girls’ night out. That will usually consist of one or two women who have never had their makeup done professionally, so their reactions to their new look always warm my heart.

I also offer private lessons and tutorials. There is nothing more empowering to a woman than having the confidence in knowing that you can create your own traffic stopping look with your own tools and skills.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Where do you see your company in the next 2-5 years?

KASARHRI RAE OF JUST BLEND: I would like for Just Blend to have more notoriety, and have a few artists with different strengths working with me. With so many movies being filmed in and around New Orleans, I hope to be working on a few sets with some production companies. I really enjoy image consulting and styling so I am hoping to get a handful of high profile clients that I can style for events they attend, kind of like Kate Young and Rachael Zoe.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about the stir false lashes are making in the beauty world. Do you see this remaining a constant in fashion?

KASARHRI RAE OF JUST BLEND: False lashes are all the rage now. Lashes are addicting. It is a huge trend right now and will probably continue for a while. It’s like getting hair extensions – once you do it once, you are hooked forever. Lashes make your eyes bright and stand out without using a lot of eye shadow, or can make you look sexy and sultry in just a few minutes. I advise all the ladies to use strip lashes so they can take them off at night and thoroughly cleanse their face. I wear my strips a good 9 or 10 times before discarding them. Also stay away from “Hair Extension” glue. It is not eyelash glue and will make your lashes look heavy. It is not healthy for your eyelids.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Where did you get your own style? Was there a particular person or persons who influenced you?

KASARHRI RAE OF JUST BLEND: My makeup inspirations definitely come from current fashion trends. I have a subscription to just about every magazine that has any information about makeup or fashion, even a tattoo magazine. I like to focus on things that not “normal”, that stand out and that people would not typically think is pretty. I also love any and everything that glitters. You can never have too much glitter. If I could live in a glitter box, I would!!

I do get some of my influences from stylist Petra Flannery, June Ambrose, and famed makeup artist Billy B, as well as the Pro artists with MAC. I am loving what Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga have done for the artistic value of makeup. It was getting a little flat and drab.
