Man Robs Subway Then Crosses Street To Buy Sandwich at Potbelly, Police Say

Tuesday, May 5th, 2015

Police say Fredrick Warren was still eating his Potbelly sandwich when arrested.

Police say a Chicago man robbed a Subway sandwich shop with a knife, and then crossed the street and bought a sandwich at Subway’s competitor, Potbelly, where he was arrested.

Fredrick Warren, 43, was still eating his Potbelly sandwich when police arrived just before 5 p.m. on April 26, police said.

About 20 minutes earlier, Warren had walked into the Subway at 6449 N. Sheridan Road and held up the cashier with a folding knife, police said.

A customer who walked in mid-robbery told investigators she saw Warren leaning over the counter and grabbing cash from the register, police said.

Investigators caught Warren’s trail by watching Loyola University Police surveillance video, according to Chicago and Loyola police departments.

It showed Warren walking south down Sheridan Road, crossing the street and then walking back north to Potbelly at 6464 N. Sheridan Road, police said.

There was no sign of him leaving the Potbelly, so they went inside and found him eating near the back of the shop, his gold coat draped over his seat, police said.

He was arrested — and police found $186 in cash and a silver-bladed folding knife with a black handle on him, police said.

Warren, of the 2300 block of East 75th Street, was charged with armed robbery.

Gangsta Rapper Cool C Set To Be Executed By Lethal Injection For Murder Of Philly Cop

Monday, November 24th, 2014

Rapper Cool C, who tried to live up to his “Glamorous Life” single by robbing a Philadelphia bank and gunning down a cop, had his death warrant signed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett.

Christopher Roney, aka Cool C, was convicted of first-degree murder after shooting Philadelphia Police Officer Lauretha Vaird, 43, a nine-year veteran who responded to a 1996 heist at PNC Bank on Rising Sun Ave.

Corbett announced he signed the warrant Friday and Roney, 44, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Jan. 8 at the State Correctional Institution-Greene.

Vaird, a single mother of two, was shot in the abdomen as Roney, Ernest Canty and Warren McGlone tried to rob the bank as it opened at 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 2, 1996.

His mother testified that she was making Roney breakfast at home when the robbery took place, but the conviction was upheld on appeal in 2005, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Police officers weep at the casket of slain policewoman Lauretha Vaird in north Philadelphia. Vaird was shot and killed in the line of duty when she responded to a bank robbery on Jan. 2, 1996.
Cool C, who released two albums, “I Gotta Habit” and “Life in the Ghetto,” was known for his gold chains, aviator sunglasses and hundred dollar bills.

His last release, “Countin’ Endless Bank,” was part of the group C.E.B., a 1993 collaboration with McGlone, aka Steady B.

McGlone and Canty are serving life in prison.

Porsha Williams In And Out Of Jail For Attacking Kenya Moore

Thursday, April 17th, 2014

Porsha Williams mug shot, Just in time for this Sunday’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta’ reunion show, the Atlanta Police Department served Porsha Williams with an arrest warrant for her attack (captured on film) on Kenya Moore.

Kenya called the police two weeks ago after the fight happened and filed a report.

Tonight, Williams turned herself in, got her mug shot taken and left on a $2,000 bond, according to APD. (Thank you, my fellow AJC staffer Alexis Stevens for making the call.)

She was charged with a misdemeanor battery. I presume a fine is in order and maybe a few hours of community service.

Insiders say Kenya goaded Porsha with attacks on her broken marriage and Porsha cracked. And as trailers show, Kenya used props: a scepter and a bullhorn. Ultimately, it’s much ado about nothing relatively speaking but it’s reality ratings gold for Bravo.

Mexican Drug Lord Arrested After Balling Out on Instagram

Friday, January 24th, 2014

The pitfalls of being a rich drug lord have been portrayed in countless films, but Jose Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa didn’t seem to think that he would be busted after posting hundreds of baller photos on Instagram. He was recently arrested, and it seems that all of his photos posing with supercars may have tipped off the police about his profession.

All of the faces are blurred out on the account, so there’s no way of proving that it’s actually him, but countless photos of the yachts, gold guns, and private jets didn’t exactly show that he was living the simple life under the radar. Check out some of the photos in the above slide and let us know what you think.

Twerking Party Canceled Over Use Of Martin Luther King, Jr. Image

How low can you go? Dr. Bernice King (pictured below) had the unfortunate experience of seeing her idolized father’s, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., face superimposed on the image of a street hood sporting a huge gold chain and making a gang sign gestures under the party headline “Freedom to Twerk.” The fliers, which had been distributed widely, were promoting a January 18th Flint, Mich., teen club’s twerk party.

Mayweather’s Ex Furious Daughter & Miss Jackson Dressed Alike

Tuesday, September 17th, 2013

Josie Harris, Floyd Mayweather’s ex and mother of three of his children, was livid when she showed up to Floyd’s fight over the weekend and discovered her 10-year-old daughter and Miss Jackson were wearing the exact same dress. Jackson and Mayweather have been dating for years, but Josie has been open about her dislike for Floyd’s girl.

The “Starter Wives” star spoke to TMZ about the debacle, revealing that she paid “Project Runway” designer Michael Costello $795 for a one-of-a-kind dress that turned out to be not so unique. Josie told TMZ, “It’s an unspoken rule and a cardinal sin for a ‘real designer’ to dress clients alike going to the same major event … Tacky, tacky, tacky.”

She also shared her thoughts on Miss Jackson, saying “She is a total gold digger … She conveniently came back around 2 days before Floyd got his $41.5 million check.”

The designer said that he would not be giving Josie a refund, stating “No exclusivity was promised regarding the dress. If you want exclusivity, you need to pay more.”

Check out the photos of both dresses in the above slide and let us know what you think:

Girl Who Performed At Inaugural Was Gunned Down In Chicago

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

A 15-year-old Chicago girl gunned down a week after she performed during President Obama’s inaugural festivities was remembered Wednesday as a “walking angel” – the last person her family could imagine dying by a bullet.

Hadiya Pendleton was an honor student, a marching-band majorette, and a doting big sister who thought about becoming a journalist or a pharmacist or even getting into politics after she witnessed history in Washington last week.
The biggest trouble the insatiable reader ever gave her parents: running up their credit card buying books on Amazon.

“I couldn’t ask for a better child,” her mother, Cleo Cowley, said through tears at her Chicago home. “She didn’t give me any hard time at all. She had a heart of gold.”

A sophomore at Chicago’s selective King College Prep High School, Pendleton was walking with fellow members of the volleyball team in a park Tuesday afternoon when the skies opened. They ducked under a canopy to get out of the rain, joining other teenagers.

At that moment, Chicago police say, a gunman came running down an alley behind the park, opened fire and then darted into a waiting vehicle and took off. No arrests have been made.
