Jay Z, Mayor Garcetti Announce Summer L.A. Music Festival

Wednesday, April 16th, 2014

Mayor Eric Garcetti teamed up with Jay Z during a news conference on Wednesday to announce a summer music festival that would be taking place in downtown Los Angeles this summer.

The two-day “Budweiser Made in America” concert is scheduled for August 30 and August 31 in Grand Park, according to a news release from Budweiser and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

“On Labor Day weekend, we’re going to celebrate our golden state of mind right here in L.A. with a sellout crowd, right here on the steps of City Hall and into Grand Park,” Garcetti said during the news conference.

About 50,000 people were expected to attend the two-day concert, according to Garcetti, who was credited with bringing the event to L.A. by Jay Z.

“Los Angeles, you all should be very proud of this incredible mayor you have, who pulled this thing together in record time,” Jay Z said. “Two years ago, he had a vision of putting together a music festival that blurred musical genre lines.”

The 19-time Grammy winner noted that local residents would have the benefit of being able to go to a music festival that wasn’t at “some far off place that you can’t get to.”

He added that the concert was meant to be inclusive and “not exclusive.”

The “Budweiser Made in America” music festival will also be held on the same two dates in Philadelphia, which has hosted the concert since 2012.

“We started two years ago in Philadelphia and had huge success,” Jay Z said. “I’m sure we’ll have even more success in Los Angeles. We’re very proud to be here.”

The two-day event could be a major boost to the L.A.’s economy, as Garcetti noted that the first concert in Philadelphia had an economic impact of $10 million on the city.

Some of the benefits from the L.A. location festival were expected to go to The United Way of Greater Los Angeles, according to L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson.

The music festival in Philadelphia would benefit the United Way of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and the United Way of Lancaster County, the release stated.

The prospect of a concert in the city thrilled some L.A. residents.

“That’s pretty cool,” said Elizabeth Lee, who works in downtown. “That sounds fun.”

Others, however, expressed concerns that the festival would create more traffic in the city.

“Yeah, sure, why not add more traffic to downtown L.A.,” Bill Engvall said. “Let’s see how much we can take.”

“Early bird” tickets, including fees, cost $155 and were scheduled to go on sale Friday at 10 a.m., according to Ticketmaster’s website.

INTERVIEW: Ryan Culver – Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (PART 1)

Monday, December 31st, 2012

Ryan Culver

PART 2 >>>

If you have been to the movies in the past few months you have undoubtedly seen the trailer for Playstation All-Star Battle Royale. The star of that trailer is none other than Nathan Drake of the Uncharted Series, but who is the actor behind the character? His name is Ryan Culver. His name might not ring any bells but if the quality of his work has anything to say about it; that will be changing in the future. I got the chance to pick Ryan’s brain about his roles, career and so much more. Check it out below.Ryan Culver, red shirt low res

JAMES ARLEDGE: First of all can we talk a bit about your background? How did you get started as an actor?

RYAN CULVER: Actually I started out on stage at 11.   I really like that medium, but the amount of collaboration in filmmaking is really incredible and I have been drawn to that for some time.  I started TV, commercial, and small film work around 2000-2001, and I’m now in Los Angeles doing that, among other things.

JA: How do you get ready for a role or get pumped up before going on set? Does this differ from genre to genre?

RC: Well getting ready is always a matter of doing your homework on the character and their situation.  Each role and each genre is different.  I’ve got a weird thing about the shoes of a character.  To me, shoes (or the lack of them) really affects the way you walk, from running shoes, to sandals, to dress shoes.  I tend to carry myself a little differently in each pair, I feel different in each pair, and for me, what a character (and I) wear really helps me to climb into that world.

Getting “pumped” before a scene does change for me based on genre or particular intention in that scene.  I’m not overly “method,” but I will try to put myself into whatever feeling the character would be in prior to stepping onto the set.  Sometimes that means you isolate yourself, go for a run, yell, laugh, eat a lot, don’t eat at all, etc.  For the action stuff, it’s all high energy, so that means staying loose, stretching, keeping a lot of energy in your breathing, so you start the scene as if you’ve been there, in it for a while.  It’s also important to take it easy between takes, to make sure all your energy is going to the work on camera.  All of that becomes even more important when you’re shooting over long nights, like we did on the PlayStation shoot.

I dig those experiences though.  I feel that the more authentic my experience is, the more that will come across on screen.
JA: What real life experiences have you had that you feel has prepared you for your role as Nathan Drake?

RC: Oh, I’ve been bouncing around the world, having crazy adventures for many years.  I’ve been an action- sport athlete for most of my life, skydiving, BASE jumping, rock climbing, scuba diving, etc.  I’m also a pilot and I own a company that moves small aircraft around the world, so when I’m not on set, I am usually flying planes to remote spots all over the world, landing in crazy places and getting to meet a lot of interesting people.
It’s hard for me to get tied down, and I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker, so you’ll usually find me off in some part of the world getting into some sort of trouble (haha).

JA: What’s it like to adapt and become a character that people already know as opposed to creating an entirely new character?

RC: Man, when I realized how big a deal Drake was to the fans around the world, I was a bit intimidated to start the process of working on him.  I’ve said before that the most important thing to me is “getting it right” for the fans, and I put a lot of pressure on myself when I started, to try and really bring that guy you see in the game to real life on screen.

For something like this, there is already such an awesome groundwork for you to pull from.  Nathan Drake is such a richly complex character and the storyline is amazingly detailed.  While it offers a lot, it can also make it harder, because it may make you feel constricted by what’s already out there and known about Drake.  For me, what’s “out there” is so cool and full of life, that I could inhabit his world without feeling stuck.

I have friends and family who are big gamers, and after I was cast, I underwent an intense study process to learn about Drake and immerse myself into his world.  I spent many hours watching the online “movies” of the three games, and questioned all the gamers I knew, to get their advice on how to approach the character.

What are your thoughts on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale? What character is your favorite? Which characters would you like to see on the roster? And finally, please discuss what you thought of Ryan’s answers and performance in the commercial in the comments below.

Special thanks to Ryan Culver for answering all my questions.

Alana Sanders   She’s a vocalist, songwriter, textbook author, she wrote the first college Textbook dedicated to “Social Media” marketing through Pearson Education, radio & TV host, event host, marketing & business consultant and a college professor. She’s also won over 25 beauty pageants. Talking about wearing many hats, she’s got to be head heavy!

She’s been seen on “Tiny & Toya” BET hit reality TV show as the Celebrity Business Consultant and on “FOX” as a Marketing/Business Professor speaking about Social Media…..BUT what Alana Sanders love most is her first love: MUSIC.

Alana Sanders, is a native of (Covington) Louisiana currently residing in the Atlanta Metro Area. She’s been singing since the age of three and has had Vocal Music Performance Scholarships from a list of colleges and universities. Alana has always been a performer and her magic began when she caught the eye of a group of musicians who asked her to start a band with them. The Band consist of talented musicians that have played and produced for artist such as Silk, Donnie McClurkin, Howard Hewitt, EnVogue, Phil Perry, Angela Bofil, The Clark Sisters, Latoya Luckett, TLC, Jennifer Hudson, many country, rock and pop stars across the US and abroad.   Many have said that Alana has the strong vocals as Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, and Lauryn Hill.

Managed by Roy’al Entertainment, LLC, you are sure to be hearing a lot more from ALANA SANDERS!

HEAT:  So what’s happening?  Wow…you must be going to lay some heavy stuff on us today with all the rescheduling and technical difficulties we’ve been having? (She giggles)

ALANA:  Yeah girl…

HEAT:  Well let’s go then.  I know that you’re a part of Aja’s RemyMartin’s Brown Sugar show in Buckhead, tell us about that.

ALANA:  Yes, as a matter of a fact I performed there recently.  Brown Sugar, hosted by Insight Marketing, brings the elite entertainers to Buckhead and my band, Alana Sanders and Company, plays for them.

HEAT:  Who makes up Alana Sanders and Company?

ALANA:  Well of course myself, then there’s Reggie Carter (Keys), Michael Norwood (Bass), Markeith Black (Lead Guitar) and Quinton Robinson (Drums).

HEAT:  When did you first fall in love with music?

ALANA:  I have been a lover of music for a long time.  My father was a musician.  He also taught music in public school system and he was a pastor.  He played every instrument so being in that household you had to learn to play something…beat on a box, do something…(she giggles)  With that being said, I learned piano, clarinet, and then I started singing.  I attended Grambling State University on a vocal music scholarship singing with the choir. I sang Opera.

HEAT:  Wow! Fantastic! So what genre of music would you say your music is?

ALANA:  I would say it’s more inspirational and up lifting. It does have a Neo-Soul popness type feel.  My producer did this to market my sound nationally and internationally.  I love Jazz and R&B but Neo-Soul; it’s music that makes you feel good.  That’s where I’m headed to.

HEAT:  Who’s behind that the video Full Circle?

ALANA:  Elizabeth Hayford wrote the song about her late husband and I added my vision and my director took it and ran with it.   It was produced by Casey Irvin, Directed and Edited by Blesz Media.  Everyone in this video is working actors.

HEAT:  You guys did a hell of a job!  Kudos!  So what’s coming up for Alana Sanders and Company?

ALANA:  The band will be playing in the Country Club of Eagles Landing for their Jazz night on November 04th and we have many more gigs lines up. I am currently working on a deal with my management so you will be hearing a lot from me in the future. I have two offers at this time so 2013 should be a great year.

HEAT:  Any Shout outs?

ALANA:  I would like to first thank God and my parents for instilling the gift in me. Those that supported my music throughout including my family and friends.

HEAT:  We want to thank you lady for stopping by to share with our fans and yours the journey Alana Sanders is traveling on.  We wish you much Success and whenever you got a minute holla back at us.

ALANA:  The pleasure has been mine Nik-O-Licious.  Thanks to you and especially THE HEAT for recognizing me and my band. You are guys are on fire! I wish you guys the best!

Introducing the stage killer, extraordinary, beautiful, and ever so talented, LoiS “LS” Lane. For over a decade now, the once known, “Lady Shawn” has evolved and brings critical acclaim to the title, “Indie Artist”. She’s not just a show “opener” but definitely a crowd “pleaser”! It’s easy to listen to her sultry sound. Her new single,On and On”, is just a quick sampler of how her music makes you wanna get up out your seat and move something. “LS” took a few minutes out of her extremely busy schedule to sit down with “The HEAT”. Here’s what this phenomenal, intriguing artist had to say.

HEAT: Welcome to “The Heat”. How you doing?
LANE: I’m doing great. Just a little busy working generating “LS” awareness.
HEAT: Now you’ve emerged to another level and so has your stage name. “LS” now stands for what and what made you decide to change it.
LANE: Wow, back in 2008 I was like, “Lady Shawn” that’s cool but I need something stronger. “I’m one of the best female entertainers out here”, I so, I have to take this and “do it” because it’s mine and after I “do it”, the way I “do it” there won’t be anybody to come after me and “do it” like that. And just like that it hit me, I went from LS “Lady Shawn” to LS “Last Standing”.
HEAT: So tell us, when did you first fall in love with music?
LANE: I was about 4 or 5 years old. I remember serenading early one morning Prince’s “Purple Rain” to to my aunt and it felt great, and every since I’ve been doing my thing.
HEAT: Speaking of yesterdays, you’re a four time beauty pageant winner, actress, singer, song writer, model, producer, whew…I’m tired for you…(we giggle) Anything “LS” doesn’t’ do?
LANE: I don’t do much cooking, but when it comes to the art and performing I’ll do just about anything. I just love what I do.
HEAT: I first discovered you in, “We Get It Crackin” video with Culture Sol who rocks! Are you still with them?
LANE: Wow, thank you. Culture Sol is actually a Hip Hop/R&B cover band but we did our own original song and “We Get It Crackin” was it. I gig with them whenever I can, so yes, I’m still apart of Culture Sol.
HEAT: When I listen to your music it’s like a Jill Scott, Nicki Minaj, explosion all at once. I go from NeoSoul to Hip Hop, to R&B to, even a little Taylor Swift. Most people are trying to do or be like some other artist. I don’t find that in your music. What would you say your music leans towards as a genre of music?
LANE: Universal…(she giggles) I’m an entertainer and to be the “Last Standing” you have to be able to reach everyone and that’s what my music does.
HEAT: Your stage presence is awesome! 8Ball & MJG, The Brat, Field Mobs, Trina, 112, is there anybody else you would love to perform with?
LANE: OMG! I love The Black eyed Peas, Queen Latifah, Jay-Z, & Mecca, she’s a fantastic artist and so many more. I see my future continuing down my road of heavy hitters kicking down doors.
HEAT: What’s on “LS” plate today?
LANE: 106 and Park interview. Working on new material to get completed this year. It’s gonna be more Hip Hop with the fusion of the combustion of the NeoSoul side of “LS”. I’m not working with producers on this next CD but more live musicians but Jonathan Greer is a producer out of Florida that I do a lot of work with. I have my new single, “On and On” with the the promo video coming up for that. I’m also working with VH1 Save The Music. This project is designed at keeping music awareness in elementary and middle schools.
HEAT: Live music touches your soul and brings about a different feeling than laid down computerized tracks. Thank you for that.
LANE: I appreciate and thank you guys for wanting to bring me aboard the “The HEAT” family and give me an opportunity to talk to my fans, your fans, and everybody fans. And before I get out of here, I want to shout out to my Rawvide Family, Soul Entertainment, ALL the producers who have been down with me, ALL the people who have given me great advice through this journey, thank you. Joshua Walden, my true fans, family, and supporters, you are the people that give me reason to keep grinding. And most def, “THE HEAT” and you Nik-O-Licious for this invitation to chat with you, thank you so much!
HEAT: Keep up the great job LoiS “LS” Lane and we wish you the greatest success. NEVER GIVE UP!

So, if you haven’t had an opportunity to check this “ALL AROUND” entertainer out, you don’t know what you’ve been missing!

Much Love! One Love!
