Kardashians Sued Over Drugstore Makeup Line

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian are being accused of stealing the name of their drugstore makeup brand from a high-end Beverly Hills makeup artist. Michael Rey, co-owner of Chroma Makeup, is suing the sisters, claiming they stole his company name, which took 12-years of hard work to build.

Rey says that his A-list clientele will likely be turned off of using his makeup, as he believes the Kardashian’s “Khroma” beauty line will be confused in the market. Michael fears that his upper-class clients will be embarrassed to say they wear Chroma, because people will think they’re talking about the Kardashian’s line.

However, sources close to the Kardashians revealed to TMZ that the sisters aren’t afraid of Rey’s lawsuit, because they’ve trademarked their line. Earlier this summer the Kardashians trademarked the phrases, “Kardashian Khroma” and “Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe.”

Rey hasn’t trademarked the “Chroma” name, but TMZ revealed that you don’t need to register a trademark in order to pursue a trademark litigation, which is promising for Rey’s lawsuit.

Every once in a while, a reality show comes along that truly touches the soul. We’ve seen makeover shows come and go and quite often, they have such a superficial theme to them. Well, not with MTV Made.

Shalita Heard, owner and proprietor of Iconique Studio, is accustomed to breathing new life into her clients. Heard comes alive when she speaks of how a simple makeover has the possibility to being the key to a life altering event. You can just tell that she not only loves adding extensions to make her clients gorgeous – Heard lives for it.

Last week’s episode of MTV Made featured Mackenzie, a young lady of bi-racial ethnicity whose story is as touching as it is important to be broadcast. Heard was brought in to help the young lady, a Harrison, Arkansas resident. Not only did Heard provide assistance to her – she helped completely make over this beautiful young female. In this episode of MTV Made, the show made Mackenzie over into a cheerleader.

Ask any of Shalita Heard’s clients and they will tell you she is a force to be reckoned with and someone you definitely want on your team, when preparing to look and feel beautiful. We caught up with Shalita just before the show aired – here’s her it went down:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us what services were performed on Mackenzie.

SHALITA HEARD: Mackenzie is biracial, so I gave her a keratin treatment to control her curly hair. Mackenzie was raised by a Caucasian family and searched for a solution to her hair issues. I straightened her hair and helped her to control the curl. I also colored her hair and sewed-in extensions.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: That is great that you were able to help the young lady. Tell us what new ventures you’re involved in and what we can expect.

SHALITA HEARD: Well, I have a new hairline that launched in October of 2011. It’s called Phenomenal Hair by Shalita Heard.  I’ve been doing hair for over 19 years, and my clientele includes celebrities whose jobs include radio show host, TV news anchors, politicians, and well known businesswomen.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What interesting tidbits can you tell us about the show?

SHALITA HEARD: The show was filmed in Harrison, Arkansas, an area known in the past for KKK  activity. Mackenzie was adopted by an older white couple who moved her to Harrison when she was young. The story is a very touching one.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How much excitement do you see from your clients when you use extension?

SHALITA HEARD: My clients find them exciting. Some come for fashion, but I also do replacement of hair for chemo patients undergoing cancer treatments, in addition to working with those suffering from Alopecia, Psoriasis, Lupus, and other diseases.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Approximately how long does it take you to finish up with a client?

SHALITA HEARD: It takes about 2 hours for sew-in extensions, depending on the services being provided.
