Chili’s Restaurant Cook Fired For Taking Shirtless Kitchen Selfies And Posting Them On Facebook

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

A Chili’s line cook in Florida was fired this week after photos emerged of him taking shirtless photos in a restaurant, and no, we didn’t make this story up by pulling “Dumb American Stereotypes” out of a hat.

The photos went viral after Justin Speekz (actually his real name) decided to put them on Facebook, in which he poses next to a grill and lying down on a food prep surface, in an album called “Sexy Cooks of Chili’s”.

“Chili’s clearly does not encourage this type of behavior in our restaurants. We maintain very high standards of food quality, safety and cleanliness and took immediate steps to ensure the restaurant continues to follow these requirements,” Chili’s said in a statement to ABC Action News.

While Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation told ABC that his actions did not violate any laws, and that the Chili’s in question ended up passing a restaurant inspection, Speekz’s shirtlessness clearly unnerved Floridians, because THAT’S HOW YOU SPREAD EBOLA.

Friday, January 24th, 2014

A student at Olive Branch High School in Memphis captured a video of two teachers twerking in front of a class full of students.

“I don’t think that’s a way to demonstrate your lesson. They should find another way besides twerking,” one parent told ABC affiliate Local 24.

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

ABC News has learned that singer Justin Bieber was arrested early Thursday morning for drag racing and drunk driving in Miami Beach.

Police sources say Bieber was driving a rented Lamborghini.

Further details of the arrest were not immediately known, but TMZ reports that Bieber is in police custody and is being tested, presumably to measure his blood alcohol level. He will then be taken to jail, booked and processed before bail is set, the website reports.

The pop star has been making headlines around South Florida in recent days, including reports that he spent thousands of dollars in a strip club.

He also posted a picture from a Miami Beach skate shop on Instagram.

J.C. Penney to Cut 2,000 Jobs, Close 33 Stores

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

Struggling department-store operator J.C. Penney announced it will cut 2,000 jobs and close 33 stores as it tries to get back on the path to profitability.

The news raises concerns that Penney’s holiday season sales were not what the company hoped for and that the chain needs to do even more to recover from a turnaround plan that has had disastrous results.

J.C. Penney Co., based in Plano, Texas, said earlier this month said it was pleased with its holiday results but declined to give sales figures, raising worries among Wall Street analysts about how the season actually fared.

“It was a season where they realized that they had to do more to reconnect with the customers they’ve lost,” said Brian Sozzi, CEO and chief equities strategist at Belus Capital Advisors.

The cuts announced Wednesday should save more than $65 million annually. The company will take $26 million in pretax charges in the third quarter and $17 million in future quarters. Penney has 116,000 staffers and operates more than 1,100 stores. All the job cuts are related to the store closings.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela Has Died

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

Nelson Mandela, the former South African president whose stubborn defiance survived 27 years in prison and led to the dismantling of the country’s racist and brutal apartheid system, has died. Mandela was 95 years old.

Mandela had a number of issues with his health in recent years including repeated hospitalizations with a chronic lung infection.

Mandela had been listed in “serious but stable condition” after entering the hospital in June.

In April, Mandela spent 18 days in the hospital due to a lung infection and was treated for gall stones in December 2012.

Mandela’s public appearances had become increasingly rare as he dealt with his declining health.

His last public appearance was in July of 2010, when he attended the final match and closing ceremonies of the soccer World Cup held in South Africa.

78-Year-Old Brooklyn Woman Punched by Teens Playing ‘Knockout’

Friday, November 22nd, 2013

Last week, police announced that they were investigating whether multiple attacks on Jews in Brooklyn were part of an ongoing series of hate crimes, or just random attacks by teens playing a cruel game called “knockout.” Now, police say another victim has been attacked in a similar manner: a 78-year-old Midwood woman was punched in the face while walking down the street earlier this month. “She was carrying a purse that was in full view and many bags, nothing was taken,” the victim’s daughter, Rita, told ABC. “This was purely a wanton incident, someone wanted to inflict pain onto someone else, no other purpose.”

The incident happened on Sunday November 9th, but the woman was too scared to report it at first. “Who would do that? Who would attack a 78-year-old woman?” said State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who convinced her to go to police. “This is just hitting someone, attacking someone, it could be my mother, your mother. It’s just scary and crazy.” Police say this is the eighth attack of this kind to occur in Brooklyn in the last few months. “It’s ‘knockout,’ and it happens to be a Jew in each and every case,” Hikind added.

It’s still unclear whether there is any racial or religious motivation behind the attacks, but all eight attacks that have been reported in NYC thus far have been against Jews.

How Counterfeit Money Is Now Made Easier And Faster Thanks To Soap, Glue, Office Printers And How To Guides

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Recent arrests show government high-tech safeguards against counterfeit money are increasingly proving no match for crooks cashing in with basic household items such as soap, glue and office printers.

Take Heath Kellogg, a self-taught graphic artist known as ‘The Printer,’ who was arrested outside of Atlanta, Georgia with his father and four other men in November. Authorities said the crew cranked out more than a million dollars in counterfeit bills using just office printers and glue.

That same month, a Rhode Island man was arrested after he allegedly learned how to use a chemical soap to rub off the ink on $5 bills, turning them into counterfeit $100 bills — that particular skill set was simply plucked from a how-to guide off the the Internet.

Illinois Mom Stabbed Son and Girl 150 Times

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Before she killed her son and the little girl she was supposed to be babysitting, prosecutors say that Elzbieta M. Plackowska, 40, told them they were going to heaven and to get down on their knees and pray.

Police found Plackowska covered in blood inside a suburban Naperville, Illinois, home and after extensive questioning, she allegedly told police that she murdered her son Justin, 7, and his friend Olivia Dworakowski because they ‘had evil inside of them.’

Prosecutors before a judge this morning said that Plackowska was fighting with her husband and felt unappreciated as a babysitter, so she murdered the children in a fit of rage.
