STANDING ROOM ONLY: In Remembrance of Atonia Powell

atonia1

They say angels walk among us. It isn’t often we get to experience them in the flesh, but so it was with Antonia.
On July 20, 2016, a beautiful soul left this earth. Her name was Atonio Marie Atonia Powell.

Atonia was a talented songstress whose music was known around the globe, hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. Her husband, well-known entertainer Troy Laz, and she had put on many shows, both solo and as a duo. This beautiful soul had such a positive spirit and those who crossed her path, genuinely loved her.

Atonia fought a fierce battle against cancer, until finally succumbing to the disease, leaving many sad souls behind. But we know Atonia is now in a place truly befitting a queen.

Atonio, by all accounts was a loving wife, mother, friend, sister, aunt, and so much more. From a young age, friends and family knew she was a special person who would go on to perform some great feats – and that she did. From the popular Homecoming Queen at Joseph S. Clark High School to the riveting performer who graced countless stages, Atonia is described by many as “an angel”.

Bishop R. C. Blakes commented on the sheer number of people who came to pay their respects to Atonia several months ago. Her going away service, just like her performances, was standing room only.

Atonia’s family wanted to make sure she was honored in a way that she could never be forgotten. The Heat Magazine sends our condolences to all who loved Atonia. She’ll be missed.
