Houston police are looking for three gunmen who barged into the 45 Smoke Shop on the North Freeway feeder road near Patton and shot and killed the owner.
Around 9 p.m. Friday, the three men burst through the door heavily armed, police said.
“They were all armed with a shotgun and pistols and they started firing and killed the owner of this business,” said C. Liu with HPD Homicide.
The owner was identified by family members as 35-year-old Michael Phelan. Police said he tried to fight back, grabbing a gun of his own, but he was hit four times and died at Ben Taub General Hospital.
“He didn’t deserve this at all,” said his cousin and business partner, Sam Cisnero.
It is uncertain if Phelan was able to shoot any of the gunmen.
“I just feel bad for his three daughters, his one on the way, and his wife,” Cisnero said.
