NFL star Junior Seau dead of apparent gunshot

TMZ is reporting retired NFL star Junior Seau is dead, and the police are investigating a shooting in his home:

NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA … and cops are investigating a shooting … multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Cops are currently at Seau’s home just outside San Diego. Seau was 43-years-old … and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.

During his playing days, Junior Seau had the reputation of being a hard-hitting linebacker. He played in the NFL for 20 seasons, mostly with the San Diego Chargers before also playing for the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. When he finished playing in 2009, he had 56.5 sacks, 1,524 tackles, and 12 Pro Bowl appearances.

Seau is the eighth member of the Chargers ’94 Super Bowl team to pass.

1:45 P.M. UPDATE:  Authorities believe the death is a suicide and are stating that Seau died of a gunshot wound to his chest.
