Happy Birthday K-Ci!

K-Ci & JoJo are known as one of the top American R&B brother duo success stories. Cedric “K-Ci” Hailey, his birth name, was born September 2, 1969. Believe it or not, K-Ci was born on the day the ATM machines were introduced to America. The first ATM machine distributing cash to customers was located at Chemical Bank in Rockville Center, New York. Talking about being born into money!

K-Ci is a native of Monroe, North Carolina, just west of Charlotte, North Carolina. We could never forget the two were also members of the R&B group Jodeci with the brothers—Donald, aka, DeVante Swing and brother Dalvin DeGrate.

K-Ci and JoJo’s first sign of independence came in 1994 with the movie “Jason’s Lyric” where K-Ci performed the group’s rendition of Bobby Womack’s hit “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”.

Early in 1996, K-Ci and JoJo performed “How Could You” for Bulletproof, a movie starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler. By July 1996, K-Ci and JoJo got the distinct opportunity to perform with the legendary 2Pac in his number-one R&B hit “How Do U Want It”. This head bobbing get up and dance tune landed on Billboard Hot 100.

On June 22, 1999, K-Ci & JoJo’s second studio album, It’s Real was released. It’s Real did fantastic coming in number eight on the Billboard 200, and number two on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums, making it’s certified platinum debut by the RIAA. The album reached top 20 on the Dutch Mega Album Top 100, and the Canadian Albums Chart. It’s Real also gained momentum on the ARIA Charts and New Zealand Top 40 Albums. K-Ci & JoJo would release four singles from the album one of which made the number-two Billboard, the song, “Tell Me It’s Real”. It’s Real also received three stars from ALLmusic.

In late 2006, K-Ci released his debut solo album entitled My Book.

Some would say K-Ci and JoJo are on their way to a comeback from a very long hiatus. 2010 marked the year the duo appeared in a reality show called K-Ci and JoJo Come Clean for ‘T.V. ONE’ and also in that same year Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds signed an exclusive deal with the duo for his label, Soda Pop Records.

We’re looking for great things from you K-Ci! But today, just enjoy yourself! Happy Birthday to a great entertainer, K-Ci! We wish you the best and so very many more!
