With a world full of danger, we live in perilous times. Our citizens need a sheriff who has developed trust throughout our community and who has the ability to lead us into the future. It is vitally important to elect an individual with vision, a willingness to get involved, and who possess an understanding of the challenging needs of our community.
Here is a little background on Major Lafayette Woods, Jr. matriculated at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) in 2000, where in 2004 he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Following graduation in the Spring of 2004, Major Woods pursued a career in law enforcement with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he was originally assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division as a Deputy Sheriff. Just after one year of being assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division, he was re-assigned to the Tri-County Drug Task Force in 2005. He was tasked with investigating a variety of local drug trafficking organizations operating within Jefferson, Arkansas and Lincoln Counties. In 2008, Major Woods was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration better known as the DEA and assigned to the Little Rock District Office as a Task Force Officer (TFO). As a TFO from 2008 to 2010, Major Woods was tasked with investigating a variety of federal criminal matters specifically related to federal drug offenses under the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) initiative through the development of an integrated investigative strategy to ensure the complete investigation of all HIDTA events and the identification of potential suspects operating within the ranks of some of our Nation’s most dangerous Drug Trafficking Organizations.
Also in 2008 while assigned to the DEA, Major Woods was tasked with heading up agencies Internal Affairs Division as a collateral duty. In 2009, Major Woods was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and continued his work with the DEA and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division. In 2010, he was promoted to rank Major and tasked with heading the agencies operations, where he currently overseas nine divisions and tasked with coordinating all major operations throughout the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. He also serves as the agencies Public Information Officer (PIO). Major Woods is also a certified Law Enforcement Training Instructor.
Major Woods thrives on the intensity of public safety work. Throughout his Law Enforcement career he has received over a thousand hours of specialized training from all over the country. He is a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
