58% of Hotel Workers Say They’ve Been Sexually Harassed by Guest

Sunday, November 19th, 2017

Cecilia was working as a minibar attendant at a Chicago hotel when she knocked on the guest’s door and announced herself. The man’s response was quick and unequivocal: “You can come in.”

When she opened the door, “He was at the computer, masturbating,” Cecilia recalled. She was overcome with shock and embarrassment. Judging from the satisfied look on the man’s face, that was the whole idea.

“I felt nasty,” recalled Cecilia, who asked that her last name and the hotel not be identified. “You’d expect that to happen to people in a jail but not in regular work. I felt like crying.”

It wasn’t the only time Cecilia had dealt with extreme forms of sexual harassment in her three decades working in downtown hotels. A male guest once answered her knock by opening the door naked. Just a month and a half ago, a younger colleague confided to Cecilia that a male guest had tried to embrace her while she was in his room. Cecilia escorted the shaken housekeeper to the hotel’s security team to report the incident.

15 Black Men from Chicago Exonerated After Being Framed by Crooked Cop

Saturday, November 18th, 2017

A Cook County judge Thursday vacated felony convictions for 15 defendants who claimed they were framed by disgraced Chicago Police Sgt. Ronald Watts, following a landmark decision by the State’s Attorney’s Office to toss aside a string of cases over allegations of police misconduct.

With 10 of the defendants standing in the courtroom, Chief Criminal Courts Judge Judge LeRoy K. Martin approved a motion by prosecutors to throw out a total of 18 cases against 15 men who were arrested by Watts and members of a tactical team that operated in the Ida B. Wells housing projects.

3 Ohio Pastors Accused Of Luring Teen Girls, Paying For Sex

Friday, November 17th, 2017

Federal prosecutors say three pastors in Ohio conspired to recruit teen girls to have sex with them and shared photos and videos of the girls.

Investigators say the three men who ran churches in Toledo often paid the girls for sex.

All three pleaded not guilty this past week in federal court to charges that include child sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.

Each could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

Court documents describe how one of the pastors had sex with a girl in his church office, at home and at a motel.

Prosecutors say one of the pastors warned one girl not to say anything because it would ruin his family and his church.

Florida Dad Arrested for Leaving Kids in Car to Hit Strip Club

Friday, November 17th, 2017

Police said a man chose lap dances over kids.

Willie Jordan Jr. abandoned two young children in the backseat of a car, while he was inside a Fort Myers strip club.

Jordan Jr. told police he was only inside Scarlett’s for a minute or two.

But we talked with the general manager, who said Jordan Jr. was inside “enjoying himself” for much longer.

“He was in there for about 30 to 40 minutes,” said Scarlett’s general manager Christopher Mays.

“[There was] a 3-month-old boy who’s not strapped in the car seat upside down head is where it’s butt should be, feet up in the air,” Mays said.

The infant was crying and got the attention of a customer who called for help.

“God only knows how much longer an upside down infant has in a car seat,” Mays said.

Mays said his staff and the customer helped the 3-year-old unlock the car from the inside, getting both kids out safely.

Jordan Jr. now faces child neglect charges.

Mays, who’s also a father, said this is a first at Scarlett’s.

According to the police report, the Department of Children and Families is conducting a follow-up investigation.
